No one is supporting modloader anymore, last time I installed forge, I encountered a increase in loading time for both client and worlds, and a decrease in FPS, so I stick to modloader.
So many mod makers are going out of there way to make sure that you cannot use mods without forge, I hope this is not a future for modding.
Personally, I hope it is. Forge offers so much more than ModLoader in terms of what modders can utilize and add to their mods. FPS issues aren't going to be Forge's fault.
Forge is a MUCH better API than modloader as it makes it to where you usually never have to edit class files, meaning it is compatible with many more mods.

Forge is not compatible with a lot of things, I notice many things on mods saying "compatible with forge #soandso" when it can't be compatible with forge as a whole.
And no, FPS issues are forge's fault, I installed modloader and my FPS stayed normal, my world loading stayed normal, my client loading went faster.
There should still be a modloader version on most mods for people who still use it.

Forge IS compatible with almost every modloader mod, as it contains a version of modloader in itself. and no, forge does not at all ahve any affect on your FPS, no clue why that is happening.

It apparantly does have a affect on your FPS and client loading, not that bad on world loading though.
Client loading is long because of "Please wait, FML is setting up things before you can play!"

It's better for modders and end users. Firstly, modders are able to update before Minecraft updates hit the launcher and don't need to worry about other apis or overwriting base files. All the user has to do is install Forge then place the mod's jar in their mods folder.
Think of ModLoader as a bicycle and Forge as a car. It's more complex but it's a lot faster and easier.
For people who have fps problems, use Optifine, it'll speed it up just fine.

I really wish you would've read my past replies.
Forge is not faster, its slower.
Forge may be more efficient, but FPS is over efficiency.
I can't play minecraft without optifine bro, I never update my client until optifine is updated.

Because your computer is too slow to play isn't really a reason to hate it. Also, when I said faster before I meant it was faster to update (both forge and the mods). The few fps that are lost by Forge aren't noticeable by anyone with a decent computer.
There should still be a modloader version on most mods for people who still use it.
See, this is where you're wrong. The modders aren't going out of their way to make it so you have to use forge; it's the opposite. Forge eliminates having to use multiple APIs (such as: install modloader, then MLMP, then XAPI, then YAPI). Using forge gives the modders more free time to add new features, etc. If they had to maintain two versions of the mod, think of how much slower the updates would be.

I agree with you, Masdog, I personally hate forge. Whenever I try to use a mod with forge, minecraft always crashes (I know I'm installing it right because modloader mods work just fine) I liked it a lot better when modloader was used most, because now that forge is upcoming so much, many of the mods I liked before I can no longer use. I don't think this needs to be an argument, but I agree with masdog that modders should have a download for a version that uses modloader.

You're obviously not installing them right then... lol.
Every mod you want two versions made for, send the dev a donation of $100 and im sure they'll have no problem wasting a bit of time making it modloader only, especially for you.
As a modder, FML is so much easier to use. You write your mod once, and it works on client+server. You dont need to edit base code, meaning it is so much easier for every mod to be compatible and yea, it's just better. I used Modloader to learn modding, but eventually migrated over to forge.
If you prefer Modloader, use it. But most people find Forge easier to install, and better overall.

FPS decreases by 5-10.
If it wasn't for those I would quit modloader.
Well, it has never had any problems with the people I play with and unless your fps is already low a 5-10 fps drop shouldn't be that bad.

Well, if you can't play minecraft at all without optifine then you shouldn't be playing it at all
There, it's done.
Cats.
