Title says it all. Why do mods need to be updated? Is it as simple as changing one line from "1.2_02" to "1.3_01"? I doubt it.

So I'd like to know, for the sake of curiosity, the why, how, and what of updating a mod.

I actually need to know how to update my mods for when 1.~~ comes out =/.
