I see that some people like me, are looking for a type of “survival oriented” modpack. Unfortunately, there is just one currently for 1.12.2 (as far as I know).
Since 2015, I’ve been trying to combine mods that give me a “realistic”-like experience.
For what I’ve found, you should try to combine the following mods (not necessarily all of them, of course. Since some add the same feature. So, choose wisely):
- Unfortunately, since RTG is only available for 1.7.10, my only suggestion is Biome Bundle.
o There is also “Far from Home” (which plays with BoP), yet it requires one specific version of other mods. If you desire to add Biome Bundle, you must replace the Biomes IDs to just names and not numbers (to avoid ID issues).
Group V – World Generation +:
- Plant Mega pack, Biomes O’Plenty (plants do spawn in a Biome Bundle World), Harvestcraft, Streams, Quark, Worley Caves, Divergent Underground, Ores All Easy
- If you like mining: All the “Base Metals” add-ons.
- Other mod that adds flora is: Plants mod
- You can also install Dynamic Trees. Nonetheless, it seems that the “fall” feature is buggy and may cause crashes with other mods.
Group VI – Survival Aspect (I considered food as part of it):
- Tough As Nails (a new “Enviromine” but without the gravity or insanity feature)
- Armor Underwear Mod (a must if you add TAS since the temperature feature can be a pain in the butt sometimes)
- Pyrotech (is like Primal Core & Forgecraft combined)
- Foodfunk (adds the rotten feature of Enviromine to 1.12.2).
- Historicized Medicine
- Vanilla Tech
- Vanilla Tweaks
- Iguana Tweaks
- AppleSkin
- Tea Story
- Agricraft
- Cuisine
- Vanilla Food Pantry
- Fishing Made Better
- Animania
- Serene Seasons
- Time Speed Mod
- There is also the mod: Real Serene, but currently it crashes all the time.
Group VII – Survival Aspect +:
- Agri-seasons
- Aquaculture
- Simple Corn
- Cooking & Farming for Blockheads
- Better Diving
- Inspirations
- LeatherWorks
- Rustic
- Apiary & Honey
. Salty Mod
Group VIII – Animals & Mobs:
- Zoocraft Discoveries
- Wizard’s Animals
- Better Animals
- Better Animals +
- Butterflies
- Exotic Birds
- Familiar Fauna
- Just a Few fish
- Natural Fauna
- ZAWA mod
- The Bird Watching Mod
- I don’t recommend you using MO ‘Creatures since I’ve experience issues with the Werewolf and Minigolem mobs that end up in crashes.
Group IX – NPC+:
- Millenaire (de-activate the “chunks always active” so your PC doesn’t suffer)
- MCA mod
The rest of the list is merely for fun reasons. Not survival. Hope is useful too!
Group X – Additional Mobs:
- Primitive Mobs
- Elemental Creepers
- Ice and Fire Mod
- Totemic
- Rough Mobs
- Fossil and Archeology Mod
- Jurassicraft
- Grimoire of Gaia 3
- Meme in a bottle
- Mowzies Mobs
- Not Enough Cats
- Zombie Awareness
- Rats
- Pokecube
- Doggytalents
Group XI – Aesthetics:
- Chisel
- Not Enough Roofs
- Floricraft
- Chinjufu Mod
- Bibliocraft
- Chinese Workshop
- Furniture mod (by Crayfish)
Group XII – Miscellaneous:
- Ceramics
- Enchanting Plus
- Ender Compass
- Extra Golems
- Future MC
- GardenStuff
- Gravestone Mod
- Headcrumbs
- Miniheads
- Grim Pack
- Spartan Shields & Weaponry
- Tinker Construct
- Placeable Items
- R2S mod
- Totem Expansion
- Vehicle mod
- Bountiful
- Dragon Mounts
Group XIII – Dimensions +:
- The Aether
- Twilight Forest (A “Betweenlands” Lite version for me)
- Atum
- Galacticraft
- Nether Ex
- End Reborn
Group XIV – Magic mods (but easier):
- Evilcraft
- Bewitchment
- Extra Alchemy
Group XV – Tech mods (but more user friendly):
- Immersive engineering
- Steve Carts
Group XVI – Structures:
- Roguelike Dungeons
- Recurrent Complex
- Ruins
- Shipwrecks
- I recommend using just two and not all of them for aesthetic reasons.
If you try to make a modpack with a combination of the mods from the mentioned list, I highly suggest you to reduce the spawns of all the mobs to the rarest possible. Barely 1 or 2 spawns per chunk. Thus, you make your world more challenging!
This is an awesome list! Very helpful and fun to see your collation. I may add the mod Idō. It adds the swiming mechanics of later versions. What have you found is the best way to reduce spawns?
