Eh, you don't really need that much RAM. Probably if you're using 200 mods you'll want 2 GBs, or 1 and a half, but 3 is too much. It's because of the 'garbage disposal' of java, which frees up the RAM.
Short way: Many RAM is inefficient.
Long way: The garbage disposer of java frees unused memory. It's what when press F3, what makes the used RAM go down. if you allocate a lot of it, a good example is this:
You have 100 pants, and use only 10. See the problem? There's 90 pants in your wardrobe making bulk.
Just leave it with 1 GB to start with, then add some more if you feel like it needs more. If the ram goes from 50% to 100%, it's the garbage disposal not working properly, not the lack of RAM (it's like you're waiting till the last day to do the laundry and have to clean 50 pants!).
If you're looking for a fun adventure pack, want to try Dungeons and Diamonds? With an emphasis on exploration, dungeon crawling, realms to explore, and a party system it's an excellent pack to play with friends.

Well, go on. If your minecraft works "meh" then have 'fun'.
Just look into any RAM threads. They're all the same story.
Waht you CAN do is allocate a absurd amount then reduce it to what you need. Else it's just waste of unused space.
I'm not a fan of huge modpacks, and with 100 mods and some lag I play happily at around 800 MBs. Don't know if there is something that truly needs 3 GBs.
I'm not saying "allocate 1 GB", but allocate 2 -.-
Do you think I'm that stupid? In the end, it depends on the machine. I seriously don't think there's a modpack that needs 3 GBs.
Does anyone know of any Modpack what will work with 2-3GB of allocated RAM, with forge for 1.7.10? Even if it would need FastCraft and/or Optifine?
I want one that will make Survival a challenge, for a new Minecraft Series on YouTube.

You could try my modpack =D
Link
but some other packs would be:
Agrarian skies 1 or 2
crash landing or blast off (blast off is a bit laggy)
blood and bones
BlightFall (the spaceship lags a bit when loading up)
Terrafirmacraft (it's one mod but it's HUGE(I recommend the nei addon))

That's the worst lie I've ever, ever heard.
I'll give yours a try. :]

Try allocating one GB of RAM to FTB infinity.

You can try out my modpack, although it is 1.8, it still has a survival aspect in it.
I will, in a let's play in about 2 - 4 weeks, or less.
Following that rule, how much ram would a pack with 450 mods require?
