Welcome to paradise! Ha! Yeah right! This is the Islandic volcano Snæfellsjökull, a dark and dangerous cave system. Deep underground is rumored to be many treasures but none have survived the trip. Will you set up camp and survive the trek into the unknown?
Journey to the Core is a challenge modpack based on the story "Journey to the Center of the Earth". You begin your trip in a small cave on the overworld and slowly move further down dimension by dimension until you reach the core. Enemies are smarter, the physics are real, and the darkness is overwhelming. Check it out today!
Eh, sounds neat, but mod permissions? Possibly some screenshots?

Hey there. Nice to see the pack launched. Tried it today for the first time. Hate the locked inventory slots, but that's that. I traveled down the ladder from the starting room, there was an elevator there. I clicked on it, and it teleported me somewhere, I mined a little there, came back to the elevator, and it does not take me back. Tried sneaking, jumping, right-clicking, left-clicking, is that normal?

Yup, that is perfectly normal. The idea is to work through the quests and to get through the 4 dimensions (Cave Dimension, Deep Dark, Nether, End) all while trying to survive as long as possible against the never ending torrent of mobs and environmental dangers. As you earn XP you'll be able to unlock more inventory space, you can however invest in a backpack later on if you're low on XP.
EDIT: The pack does not allow you to return to previous dimensions so gather everything you can before travelling!
Yep, Funwayguy is correct. It's meant to lock you into a progression for the pack. If you were able to move backwards through portals it would negate the difficulty and quest progression of the pack.
I appreciate the comments though!! Let me know if anything else pops up.

This modpack is really, really difficult. I've already died countless times and had to restart. I started cheating too by saving the game manually and loading the saved folder every time I die. The monsters are just too strong. At least in the beginning, when you have no armor and supplies. The worst monster is the skeleton riding creeper, and other creepers that just kill you in one shot. I'm at the beginning yet, but in my opinion the difficulty between the first and second dimension is too steep. With the supplies you can get in the first dimension (which is like nothing), you can't survive against the monsters in the second dimension.
I'm stuck now though. I planted 7 saplings 5 in game day ago, and still, none of them grew. What's happening? Should I just wait more, or am I doing something wrong? I'm building in an underground space, but they have 7x7x7 space. Is planting underground a problem? I also used 20 bonemeals from a quest on them without success.
Spawning on a random place when you enter the portal is pretty good thing. It's always different, the resources, the shelter you have to build, and the whole environment.
Many people have said its hard to start out, but as time goes on and you learn the pack it gets easier. Just hunker down and focus on the quests. As far as your trees go, you can look up the specs that trees need in order to grow as its the same in the pack as it is in regular mc. My best guess is you don't have a high enough ceiling for the tree to grow. Lastly for the dimension change, we are quite happy with the difficulty change. We don't want you to rush to the next dimension. We want for the players to take their time and thoroughly equip and prepare them selves for the next dimension, but we don't want the player to be over prepared and just be able to cake walk through the dimensions following the cave world, hence the difficulty change. We appreciate your feed back and thank you for trying out our mod pack!

Hey Gq1rf7,
First off, I would like to thank you for taking the time to play the modpack! I would also like to thank you for the time you took to write out some experiences you have had. Most of my fixes have been through limited testing (myself and a few other streamers) so it hasn't been too much yet.
When you're trying to grow a tree making the room 8x8x8-9x9x9 seems to be more successful. There isn't anything that is altering the space needed for tree growth (but there is a multiplier to make trees grow twice as slow). I generally find I need to use 4-6 bonemeal to grow a tree and if it's taking more then there isn't enough space. I think I will push the next update out without the multiplier and it won't help the space requirements since that is a vanilla mechanic but it will help with natural growth.
Mobs are definitely tough, I agree. When you spawn into the cave dimension from the beginning area the best thing to do is to immediately try to mine into a wall and close yourself off. You have 45 seconds of resistance from all damage and this is done so you can have time to get out of harms way and not die instantly. I recommend diamond or amethyst armor if you can manage it as this will give you a lot more resistance. I always aim for the Dark Steel Armor as this can reduce damage up to 95%, have enchantments, and also have other upgrades.
The pack has been moved to the FTB launcher and will not be receiving updates via the Technic Launcher any more. Just put in the pack code JTTC in the 3rd party packs section. I will be pushing out an update very soon so keep an eye out for that.
Also, if you are interested I have been doing play throughs of the pack on my stream so if you are on Twitch I invite you to come by and ask questions and I will do my best to help you out! Thanks again for playing the pack and hopefully you continue to play it!!

Thanks for the reply. Day 14, still no tree grew on their own without bonemeal. They did with bonemeal though, so I could proceed.
Last time I was complaining about a skeleton riding creeper. Today I saw at least 5 monsters on top of each other lol. Unfortunately I didn't make pic, because I was too scared, and at least one of them was a creeper that blew up the rest.
I have two questions that aren't explained in the quest book at all (and they don't work the same as in agrarian skies that I know). How to get lava for the smeltery? And how to plant seeds? Hoes are forbidden.
I went ahead and sent the update to FTB so it should hopefully be available in the next day. It has the update to trees taking less time to grow on their own. The creeper riding the creeper riding the creeper ridin... You get the idea has been fixed. That one was due to me not choosing a config option to only allow creepers to ride specified enemies.
The lava for smeltery is attained by looking for it on the map, typically I go below level 30 and check my map to see it show up and then go from there. It sometimes shows up above but not very often. Just mine down and begin looking. Your minimap shows a range of about 10 levels so if you see if on the map just head that way and mine up or down until you're there. Hoes are forbidden, so you will have to craft a mattock from tinker's construct. It is the replacement tool for hoeing dirt.
Hopefully this will help!!

It was driving me insane. Loving the pack. Although I think I'm missing something. How do I get to the deep dark? I unlocked the quests but cannot create the portal and right clicking the elevator doesnt do anything.

The final quest of the For Science! questline gives you the deep dark portal. Just place it down and click

ok I was told that I should be able to Mine copper with a Flint Pick axe. I finally mined my way to a few copper Ores and what do I find? its copper level mining. So my flint pick wont mine it. Iron needs Iron level. SO I created a new game went into cheat mode through LAN and dropped ores of all types. NONE could be Mined with Flint pick. So either I got a bad copy or something got screwed up. I got my copy from ATL, I have version 1.1.4 Thanks ahead of time
*Edit* Ok figured out the Pick axe thing, watched someone else play and seen that the Pick axe actually Levels up to Copper.
Now I have a New problem. I need a smeltery, but to get it, I need sand. I cant seem to find any, and from what I can tell, any recipe that I can make it from requires iron and such, but to get Iron, I need the Smeltery to get better tools. You really need to either make this pack easier to understand, better resources, or better recipes. I really wanted to give this pack a good try, but so far I am not very impressed with it. Its WAY to hard at the start because of mobs, there is no guide letting you know about tools actually leveling up to different materials, resources are far to hard to get, and constantly under attack from mobs, then to boot it all off, you have meters you almost constantly have to keep an eye on. Its all stacked in favor of you dying and barely any way to survive. I am sorry, but until things have changed a bit and things get a little more hammered out, I am moving on to another pack. Sorry guys, I really do wish you the best with this pack.
Hey I have a question/issue with the questbook. I see and complete the quests (gathering of the items and getting 100%) but I can't claim the rewards. I've tried for 3 different missions and couldn't claim. Was just wondering if it was the pack or something on my end maybe, thanks.

Let me do my best to address your concerns fully,
1. Yes, all tinkers tools do level up since iguana tweaks is installed. This information is actually given to you on the tooltip on the tools themselves as "mining level'. This is how iguana tweaks has always handled mining levels.
2. The recipe for sand is in both NEI and given as a quest. You can convert 2 compressed gravel into sand so you do not need materials to make a smeltery that are not available to you.
3. The resources are hard to get because this is a hardcore challenge map. It is by no means meant to be an "easy" pack. Resource scarcity is meant to be a part of it.
4. You're constantly under attack from mobs because you're meant to be in constant danger, I have given you 45 seconds of invulnerability to combat the difficulty when you zone into the cave dimension and find a safe spot.
I am sorry that you do not enjoy the pack, it is not meant to be something that every minecraft player will enjoy. It follows the same type of philosophy that Crash Landing and Blood n' Bones has that you are meant to be faced with a challenge. I had no intention in making it an easy survival map. I do wish you the best luck in finding a pack that better suits your needs and thank you for your feedback!

Amazing pack, you did a great job! I have a question thou, how can i exit the cave dimension ?(is not working to right click the elevator) I know maybe is a dump question, but i had to ask.
Thank you Once you make it to the cave dimension you're not able to go back. This works the same for all dimensions so make sure you bring everything you can with you to the next place and don't worry, it's not a dumb question at all!
