in multiplayer we could have some sort of debuff that causes players to attack other players
here's how it can work, but don't worry,
upon defeat the possessed player will not be killed, instead the demon will leave their character body
The previously possessed player keeps all their health and armour durability which they had before the possession started.
Witches now get a buff which allows them to cast a spell on other players via a new potion, potion of corruption,
which only works if there are other players nearby.
Limitations?
Only one player can become possessed at any given time, meaning the demonic possession
has limits and cannot be placed on everyone or the only remaining player on a world,
it can only be placed on 1 player and only if there is another player within 64 blocks at the time.
The demonic possession also has a time limit, meaning it will wear off,
this time limit is unaffected by whether or not the Witch that cast the spell dies or is killed.
These rules cannot be circumvented by players leaving once a player has been possessed,
meaning they have to wait until the time limit ends for the effect to wear off even if other nearby players left the server.
2 minutes should be the time limit,
but at dawn the effect wears off regardless, as daylight nullifies the forces of darkness and drives evil spirits away.
if players want to avoid being possessed by a Witches spell at night or in a cave, they must either be far away from another player or drink enchanted water or divine water bottles before fighting a Witch.
The effect of the divine water has a standard effect time of 3 minutes but can be enhanced in duration by using redstone on the brewing stands up to 8 minutes.
Possessed players will be temporarily immune to all other potions during this time,
if there are no players nearby or if a nearby player was killed, the possessed player stands still.
Possessed players also cannot pick up other player inventory items.
Possessed players cannot place or destroy blocks, or activate redstone via switches.
Possessed players should have red eyes and a flame-like aura.
Warning other players that their buddies have been possessed and
need to get out of harms way by moving away from that player.
Also player characters that are possessed should be programmed specifically to avoid hazards like lava or pits,
meaning AI cannot just kill them when they had no control over their character.
Possessed players should be programmed only to attack other players,
how strong that possessed player is should depend strictly on the gear they had on them at the time.
If a player was possessed at the time they were knocked into lava,
lava should not kill the player, but instead drive the demon away if it was enough to defeat the demon.
The character moves out of harms way then returns control to the individual who controls that character.
if trapped in the lava pool with no way to escape without mining the blocks on the sides or a water fall etc,
the player then teleports to the nearest safe spot on the surface in the Overworld before control is returned,
and burn status is nullified, if you didn't put yourself in that dangerous situation, it is unfair that
this situation kills or even causes damage to you or your gear.
I don't think Mojang will ever implement a feature that is only available in multiplayer and not in singleplayer, but making the suggestion into a mod would probably not be a bad idea.

Sounds like an interesting mod, but not very vanilla feeling
Player attacking player? Hmm, what about single player?
Then it has no affect, unless the player uses it against another mob, the newer potion type which could be added to a potion crafting recipe.
I did not specify crafting recipes but I realize I should have, then again that deserves its own thread in my honest opinion.
Potion of Corruption should be considered at the very least however, because it could add some interesting gameplay
and make the potion system more advanced and perhaps even better or more fun.
