Before you start reading about the smithing table, I would like to mention that this should go along with another update if ever considered, recommended if comes along with a boss and mob update where there will be more stronger mobs and new bossed with different and unique ways to slay them because what I suggest may be a little overpowered in the eyes of some and the game still needs challenge but that is a topic for another post. With that in mind, lets continue...
With the newly launched surprise combat snapshot that Jeb has uploaded today has made players satisfied of what combat could hold in the future but to me, this gave me more ideas for the future past mechanics in which me and other players of both editions would like to express. The smithing table may already have an idea for a use of what it can be used for but today but I would like to express an idea of what it should be used for in my eyes and the eyes of many other players. To start, the smithing table should have the function of having a tool or weapon that be able to have multiple upgrades of the weapons and tools with that are previously made in the crafting table depending on how you want it with each weapon and tool will have different mechanics (I recommend it should have a similar interface to the stone cutter but that is what I think) and would cost more XP to enchant and use in the anvil, not only for the cost of materials depending on what you want but also cost of experience because you are upgrading a weapon or tool which are superior to the normal ones, therefor it should require more than just the cost of materials. For example, if you insert a diamond sword into the table, some of the options would be a diamond dagger in which you would receive a diamond back but for the cost of 12 XP but its mechanics would work, dagger explained by ibxtoycat in his Youtube video; Minecraft's 11 Changes To Combat - New 1.15 Snapshot at 14:42 to 15:07 in the video, where it would have a very short attack range but does 11 damage instead of 7 and a diamond great sword in which it would cost 3 diamonds but for the cost of 30 XP but its mechanics would work where it would do have a slightly longer cool down but does a lot more damage and you aren't able to use a shield. Those are just a few ideas for the sword, there are tons more weapons like (these aren't the only ideas, there are more):
Crafted from a hoe
Scythe/Sickle (a weapon that doubles as a farming tool but I'm unsure of what the stats should be)
Crafted from a axe
Battle axe (an axe with a longer blade)
Throwing axe (smaller axe that is throwable like a trident but doesn't do as much damage and has less reach so basically a weaker trident)
Great axe (Same concept as the great sword)
Crafted from a sword
Katana (shorter recharge time)
Dagger (already explained)
Great sword (already explained)
Long sword (longer reach)
The weapon upgrades may have been explained in which is good and all but what else can it do? The following may not be very involved in the surprise combat snapshot that Jeb has uploaded but is still worth a mention considering this is about of the smithing table. As the Youtuber SystemZee (who has a similar idea as me) has used as an example in his video; 8 Weapons That Should Be In Minecraft, many people remember the mod; Tinkers' Construct where they were able upgrade tools with materials you found in the game. For example, many people want auto-smelting pickaxe in which as you mine the ore, its drops is already smelted so me and other players believe that we need more tools like this.

sounds cool but I would want it to be able to take apart the tools/weapons so you can get the stuff you made with it back.
but Minecraft needs new weapons, so I would want what you said.
