When trying to do a search within the recipe book, I had difficulty finding the search box. I instinctively clicked the magnifying glass icon (which did nothing) and it wasn't initially clear to me that the area next to the icon is where you're supposed to click to start typing. Some minor changes would go a long way. I propose these solutions:
First: make the magnifying glass icon clickable (i.e. does the same thing as if you had clicked in the text box right next to it)
Second solution: change the GUI to better indicate existence of the text box.

Additionally, when trying to click through multiple screens of item recipes, I found the arrow buttons annoying because of how many times I had to click to get what I wanted.
I suggest adding mouse scrolling through recipe pages (similar to the NEI) in order to quickly find recipes. One should just have to hover their mouse over that part of the GUI and scroll up or down to advance a page. I understand this wouldn't work for some (those without ratchet-style scroll wheels or scroll wheels at all) so the arrows should stay. But for people like me who love using the scroll wheel (esp. to select hotbar slots) this would be a boon.
