Problem: For worlds that generate without villages (or with villages that are too far away), it should be possible to create a village earlier in the game, meaning that by the time you're able to survive the Nether to secure Blaze Rods and Nether Wart, the benefit of trading with villagers has largely diminished. It would be much more helpful if the player could cure a pair of zombie villagers using ingredients available in the "overworld" to help the player build up strength and gather supplies to help him survive the Nether.
Suggestions: Since gold and apples are a bit hard to come by, the Golden Apple remains a good component of the cure. For the second component, it could be another difficult-to-find item: (1) a snowball mixed with 8 spider eyes, (2) How about a Poisonous Potato dipped in gold rather than an apple? (3) Maybe the room the zombie villager is trapped inside must be made of a specific material, such as Redstone blocks or black wool. There are many possibilities to make the cure challenging without requiring the player to visit and survive a Nether Fortress.
There is another option which is already available - don't enter the nether.... A potion of weakness only requires overworld comps - water bottles and fermented spiders eye. You only need to kill spiders, farm sugercane and to make it splash, kill creepers.

Lol, not thinking are we? In order to 'brew' the potion you need at least 2 blaze rods. One to create the brewer, and one to convert to blaze powder to power the brewer.
when bedrock first landed I was having major issues in the nether with pigmen attacking without provocation and I was getting rinsed so I was very wary in the nether. This hasn't happened since a few updates back now, so back to normal for me. Nether isn't a big deal, ghasts seem few and far between and easy to take out. The only thing to be careful of in the nether are sudden unexpected holes in the ground!

You can find all items needed, together with a villager and a zombie villager, in igloos.
If you're lucky there's a ladder underneath the carpet to bring you down
