I'm new to using complicated redstone machines and storage systems. I've decided to use the simple silo system using the Minecraft wiki's design. In order to move a lot of items into the storage system, I've got a dropper attached to a water elevator sending items up to the top hopper, and then into connected chests. I was using a detector rail to run a minecart past the dropper to get it to activate, but it occurred to me that there was no way to tell the dropper to stop sending items up the elevator once the silo was full. I know that comparators be used to measure how full a container is, and I'm wondering if there's anyway to have the comparator send a signal down to the dropper to get the dropper to discharge an item when a hopper is empty, and turn the signal off when the hopper starts collecting items (if the attached chest is full). Attached is my current setup. I'm using Java Edition in 1.13.1.
Well, to answer my own question, I don't think it's possible. While I could use a lever to interrupt an existing signal, I couldn't figure out a way to use another signal to interrupt an existing signal. Instead, I ended up attaching a redstone lamp and a comparator to the back of the rear row of silo chests. Once the chest starts filling, the light will turn on, letting me know that it's time to add another layer to the chests.
