I own a Realm for me and few of my friends. We've been playing since 1.12 (mostly on MCPE) and I didn't bother about this issue when we updated to 1.13 since foxes spawned in old loaded Taigas anyway.
My problem now with 1.14 out is that I believe we have no way to acquire bees since I think even unloaded chunks are still technically in 1.12 right? Correct me if I'm wrong.
So now I want to know if there's a way to potentially update either the entire world (while keeping all the builds and stuff) or even just the unloaded chunks so we'll get the new 1.14 features even tho the world is old. I'd really love an answer to this and I'm considering all options, even World Edit (though I'm not knowledgeable in that)
Good news! I play in a Realm that was prior to this update and going to a "new" unloaded chunk in a flower biome did cause bee nests to spawn. This also happened with foxes. So, go a direction no one has gone in, find a flower or sunflower biome, and you should find them!
Uh, really the best method would be to look at maps that your players currently have and go to the unexplored sections. That is kind of the trick, no one can have been through there before, or the game will generate the chunk. We found that by putting on Elytra and going an unexplored direction (for us it was south) worked great. Found a new flower biome that no player had been near before, and there they were. We were very concerned about this as well and I used the logic of the fox in my argument, as we created the world long before they were in there. Now, we all have foxes with swords and arguments about who gets to call theirs "Sif". So, this proves that additions like this will generate in unloaded sections.
And does Chunkbase interfere with stuff like that?
Sorry, just saw that. I don't think that will help. When you put in the seed, Chunkbase will generate from the new algorithm rather than use the old. So, while you can use it, it won't be accurate? This is really an educated guess, so try it and see!
I play on Xbox One (Bedrock) so I have no way of trimming / pruning / deleting unused chunks. It's really frustrating when you do not want to start a new world but want all the updates. When Aquatic Update came out, I had to travel ridiculously far. When Pillager / Villager came out, I finally decided to start a new world. The consoles seriously need a solution for this because I DO NOT want to start a new world every time an update comes out. This Bee update is not worth starting over again. I'll just hope to get lucky and find an unloaded chunk and bring the hive back to spawn.

This exactly. When the Aquatic Update was out, you might as well as delete all of your worlds, because your oceans are now so incredibly boring. What's really going to hurt is the Nether Update. Who here doesn't already have an established portal network? Goodbye blaze spawner! Goodbye Wither farm!
At least with the simple additions like bees, there is still hope. Yes, you may have to travel a bit, but the good news is these things are ridiculously easy to breed and transport.

Thanks to everyone in advance <3

Don't worry, I'm a doctor.
Sweet! Is there a way for me to see which parts of the world are unexplored? And does Chunkbase interfere with stuff like that?

I'd really like to thank you so much! You've been such a big help! I'll keep all of that in mind for this and all future updates. Thanks again!
