So i just downloaded mine craft from the Microsoft store. The only difference i thought between the Java and c++ version was the language it was made in. People keep telling me i made a terrible mistake as basically nothing works in the Microsoft version.
Anyways i was following this tutorial -->
That tutorial was made in the Java edition.
You can notice how the bobber never hits the trip wire until a item is caught. His arm repeatedly swings.
When i built it, my bobber just goes up and down constantly activating the tripwire. I also cant touch the trap door (instead the trip wire), and my arm doesn't repeatedly swing. I also get none of the drops.
Sorry i can't provide pictures because you can't take pictures in the Microsoft version.
Does anyone have any idea why it doesn't work? Built it exactly the same. The bobber does go down when i get a fish, but is disrupted by the constant activating of the tripwire.

By "Microsoft version" do you mean the one that runs under Windoze 10?
This is formally called Bedrock Edition and the initial screen will say "Minecraft" rather than "Minecraft: Java Edition" as with the original version.
If so (given that this remark from the wiki "(Buying the Windows 10 version by itself is not recommended, because if you instead buy the Java Edition, it comes with a free code to get the Windows 10 Bedrock Edition.)" still appears to be true), It probably was a mistake. [Fortunately only a $27 dollar one....]
Assuming you do have the Win10 version (and will keep playing in it), "stuff" works differently from java which breaks many java builds.
CAVEAT: I do not play bedrock/win10 and know only a smattering picked-up incidently about its details.

In this case, I think the issue may be https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCPE-11953 (considered to "Work As Designed") which changes the timing of redstone torches.
As the video indicates, there a quite a few designs for AFK fishfarms out there, you may want to try them in creative first.
A few different designs, any of which MAY work in Win10 (selection picked for diversity of design):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppqGhSTBMCg (this one also uses a RS torch, but maybe?)

P.S. Interesting link BTW, I don't recall seeing that piston and trapdoor configuration before....
I went onto the Microsoft store and bought it. I thought i was getting the normal version of minecraft.
None of the afk fish farms will work since they all use the same tripwire design, and that doesn't work in this version.
The thing is, AFK fish farms worked on my xbox 360, yet not on a updated windows 10 version.
This website is hard to use. It constantly buffers, seems to be filled with virus.
You also cannot hold down right click either, which makes afk impossible.
