First off I play on XBOX. I played on PC for a number of years. I missed the flexibility of server administration that PC has. I was looking forward to realms so console also received some of this flexibility. Sadly this did not happen with out be labeled as a cheater.
Why can I not have admin(Moderating) abilities without killing achievements for all the players? I do not have 10 people yet, but getting close. I would like to set spawn and do some other minor things. These cannot be done without activating cheats. Activating this makes all achievements for all players not possible. I would be fine with sacrificing my own achievements to be able to do some moderator type stuff on the server as achievements are not important to me, but they might be important to someone else. On the console edition, yes turning on moderator disabled achievements but that was not a server that more than just myself and my sons played on. We now have us 3(myself and my two sons) plus 4 others. If I turn on things to help my 4 year old son, I have to punish the whole server.
I wanted to move the spawn point to the middle of the spawn town we created and I could not do this without activating cheats. This might have been a 20 or so block move. Nothing major. (I do not see this as cheating, maybe it is)
I completely understand if Minecraft wants a hardmode to be possible and they have a setting for it, but to restrict moderating the server to cheats is crazy to me. I had no plans to cheat my own experience of findings all the materials I needed for all my builds and farms. Suvival is the funnest mode IMO becasue you have to use your materials smart and really plans things out. Not to mention no location without cheats! How do you play together(it is in the name of the update without locations)?
If Minecraft wanted to market a hardcore survival mode and with this mode came rules and then rules where listed. I would know what I was walking into and play it or choose not to play in that mode.
Please make it so I can moderate the server. I would be fine with having to log into another moderating type account so I was not able to influence my own account directly. Both of my sons play with me. My youngest is 4. He loves playing with us. He needs assistance often and being able to moderate for him so he can continue to enjoy himself is a must. For example in the console edition I was able to put his keep inventory on. He dies all the time. I was also able to restrict players from hitting each other which really cut down on the fighting between my kids(I deal with enough of that in real life). Yes I know I can do this in the realm but again this screws four other people that do not have this issue and I am sure like achievements.
This thread I am sure will fall on deaf ears, but I really hope minecraft considers a lot of the positives that the console edition had and decide to add them into the BTU.
If this entire decisions is based on "We want to make sure you got that achievement legit" then I guess there will be very little that can be done about this and I will have to deal with it.

/rant off.
It's "simple" SaaS (what Realms is) make a business lolly loads of money. However SaaS such as these do not always come with the best customization...
That why I prefer self hosted solutions tailored for said software instead. Such as but not limited what the Java edition allows.
