I haven't found the answer to this yet to forgive me if it has been answered. After the "Better Together" update I can not find how to turn off auto save. Can any one help me on this? Also the Exit w/o saving - is it just gone?
I'm playing on my computer (the old Win10). I hit Esc and the menu option "Save and Quit" is still there.
The game auto-saves every 2-3 seconds, and there never has been the option to turn if off... and you still can't. Even if you hit Esc to bring up the menu, then quit the game (click on the red "X" without hitting Save and Quit), the game still saves it at that point. In other words, if you want to turn off auto-save so if you mess up you can "go back", you can't.
BTW, for others reading this, there is no Pause. Hitting Esc only brings up the menu- the game keeps right on running unless you hit Save and Quit. (Maybe they'll add a true "pause" in the future).
I am on the Xbox One and in the Xbox One Edition, at least, there as always been an option to turn off auto-save. I always turn it off so that if a creeper blows up 1/2 my house or something I can just reload my last save instead of having to rebuild. There has also been a quit w/o saving which also seems to be gone.
Oh well, hope they add back the option to turn off auto-save. For now I think I'm going to go back and play the previous version on my Xbox One.
Yeah, I also think that the "Quit w/o saving", and "turn off auto-save" features were left behind with the console editions. It's a bummer yes, but the other platforms have had this all along, so it just makes you more inclined to avoid certain situations. Yeah, re-building is a pain, and losing your good equipment is bar none infuriating, but it's just new precautions you need to take, like for instance, not hitting the ground or a pool of lava at mach speeds in your elytra. Or, always making sure to bring a fire resistance potion to the nether, no matter what. Little things like that, will help improve your experience as you adjust to this style of playing. I, myself have exited w/o saving many times on XB1, mainly due to having all mending gear and not wanting to take the chance of it despawning.. but even then I always felt like it was a bit "cheaty". But dang it if it wasn't a handy option to have! As far as pausing the game goes, I always thought it was dependent on if it was an "online" game or not. I might have to test that out again.
Well that sucks. I never used auto save either because something inevitably glitches out or freezes and you end up stuck. Better to be able to go back to a stable point. Plus sometimes I just prefer not to have to rebuild after a creeper does serious damage...
I hear ya, it is quite unfortunate. Since it's not technically a "bug", and more of a "removed feature" I don't have much hope that they will implement it into this new version. But rumor has it that they are adding a free cursor to the inventory interface on the next update, so they seem to be listening to people's complaints. They've always done a pretty good job at this, although sometimes it takes a while for them to respond, as per normal when you run a very busy company that has had Microsoft breathing down their necks since the takeover. *sigh* This is just my luck though. All my favorite games seem to get crapped on at some point. The saving grace with Minecraft, is that they are always working on it, whether it's improving or not is solely up to personal opinion.
Also, I tested the online/offline thing. It does actually pause the game if you are set to "offline". Stays live when you're online though, that sun just keeps on moving. This was tested on my XB1 edition, I'm not sure if you can do the same on other platforms.
Yes it would be great if they added it in the game because for a game like Minecraft things are very time consuming and therefore i wouldn't want to waste valuable time of my life on the game just to go 100 steps backwards sometimes. I'll put it right down and move on to a game that's less frustrating.
This is literally the worst that has happened to minecraft for real. I understand your arguments but do you have in mind that mobile and switch players just get a laag which makes the game unplayable for 5min every 10min? Even worse with this aquatic updaten, and its killing the game for me and my friends. If the option is there everyone could just choose now it looks like i stop playing because my world is getting bigger and my autosave kills my game even more every day

Thanks.
I'm assuming its gone now. Whether or not they intend to add it back I couldn't say. I'm hoping they do

The removal of this feature has definitely made me more cautious. We were spoiled on console, now it really is hardcore!
I guess the only way around it is to make a copy in the options and use the copy. It's a bit clumsy but it is a work around
