So I’m wanting to use a custom add on that I downloaded off the internet and installed on windows 10 edition for a survival world with my friends on Xbox. Will they be able to play with the custom behavior packs and texture pack. How does that work. And if they can play with it will it download it for them to use as well?
As far as I know, by default, custom behavior packs are streamed through your server but texture packs aren't. To get it simple, Minecraft runs at two "places", the Client and the Server. The Client is the interface a user has access to, it makes it possible for the user to interact with the Server and share its actions with others on the same Server. A Server, however, connects the players with each other, receiving from and sending information to the connected clients. A behavior pack might be streamed through the Server (and shared with all players) because it needs to be seen by everyone, and the entities' behavior must be processed in the server. A texture pack, however, has nothing to do with the server, and only alters the way a player sees the game (thus, it is only present in the Client, and not in the Server).
I am sorry for the technical info, I hope to be simple enough for you to understand. If I said anything wrong, feel free to correct me ^^
I love the technical side of things so no worry’s. I figured out that the behavior pack works. I was just kinda wanting to see if I could somehow give my friends the behavior pack for their word as well but sadly I can’t. Maybe if it was a realm but I’d have to pay for it which I don’t wanna lol. But anyways thanks
i'm still new and learning so don't take this advice as perfect, plus i haven't started experimenting with Behaviour Packs - but as far as Resource Packs go, if you make your pack active on the world (that your device is on - that your friends then connect to) - then when they connect to your (server?) they should be given the option to download the Resource Pack when they JOIN.
at least that's my experience with Bedrock PE. (where my friends connect on PC)
