I'm glad their gone. If your playing in survival then you are limited to the blocks you can use. Even then, the oceans are way bigger these days, there is plenty of sand.
if you are doing masive builds that require using exploits to obtain the materials needed, then you should be playing in creative anyway. That's the truth to it.
On that note, if they came out with some way to obtain sand and gravel, like a drop trade or craft; I would be fine with that. I just recently built a large building that uses sandstone as a primary block, so I understand the dificulty in obtaining it.
I don't bother with gravel or sand really. I mean I use sand to make glass panes but other than that I tend to stick with brick. I built a few cobblestone generators and use these pretty consistently since doing something like a strip mine is either impractical or time consuming.

As I reread this, I think about how I should be the bigger man and not say what's on my mind, but no... you need to be put in your place.
First off, what you said is your opinion. Secondly, I didn't say there wasn't enough sand or gravel in the game. Third, it's my choice to play in survival not creative. I, as well as many others, want as easier way to obtain sand. The truth to it is... again... your opinion. You are one in a ten million, just like me.
This game is supposed to be fun. Why do you care if I play a little differently? Why do you get to tell someone how to play? Who do you think you are and what gives you the right? You have none.
If I want to glitch sand/gravel or power rail for MY game, then so be it. You shouldn't care how other people play their game. On that note, peace out.

It's my opinion, which your allowed To disagree with. I'm fine with that, and I'm not going to dictate how you play your game. But don't get mad at me. You asked for my (not specifically, but in general) opinion.
if you have that strong of a love for the generators and want to convert me on it fine, but I'm a little upset that you (as I read it) flipped out on my opinion, which you asked for.
ill extend the olive branch of peace and admit, i may have made a poor choice of words which lead you to believe I was being agressive in my first post. Gavin said "you" are limited, an "you" can get more with ease, I should have said I, as it clears up that I'm referring to my playing of the game. I didn't do that though, as I had intended to encompass all of mine crafts players, because everyone can more or less do the same. This was wrong of me because not everyone wants to do it that way.
that was my mistake, and I apologize for sounding hostile. I still agree with not having glitches to get more of blocks, you can't take that from me
edit: the word "to" was auto corrected to "I" for some reason
I personally miss them, Its not a matter of attaining it as there are usually pretty big deserts out there, but even on xbox one, destroying a desert to get the required resources isn't something I look to do. I like to keep my landscape looking somewhat good from the surface.
However I should also note that you can 'still' duplicate sand so to speak, but required 3 players to do it, and the use of the ender portal. Its much slower then older sand generators, but it does work none the less.
I believe it was done by sancarn. You require 2 players for it to work, one player must be where the portal is located to the end world, and the other must be located in the end, specifically near the spawn platform is located. (the obsidian platform where you land when entering the end) Because the xbox one does not refresh its unload timers due to entity passing through portals you are required to have a 2nd player. In essence on the PC it works like this, if you shoot an item through a portal, it will 'refresh' the areas unload timer which i believe is 60 seconds, so as long as you continue to shoot an item through a portal before 60 seconds expires the area will remain loaded and continue to process entities. On the console this doesn't work, and 4J does not acknowledge the bug, or understand it, and thus will probably never get fixed.
Point is you need a 2nd player in the over world, near where the end portal is located. Here there is a machine that sends a piece of sand in its 'BLOCK' form every so often (30 seconds or so). This will land on the obsidian platform in its BLOCK form but also duplicates itself in entity form, which we flush off the platform into a hopper, we then use a triple piston extender to extract the original sand block sitting on the platform. The result is we end up with 2 pieces of sand for each sand we send through the portal. Timing is key here, as keep in mind that should sand come though the portal when the pistons are on the platform, they will be destroyed. Nothing can be on the platform when a new sand arrives (except players/mobs).
I haven't tested it on console but I have built it on the PC.
Console: XBOX ONE: Survival:
So we have been without these for quite some time now and it really makes building with sandstone anything a royal pain, especially Mega structures.
Vote and explain why you miss them or why not.

I also like to build mega structures and I take pride in the fact that I've mined all of the required sand or gravel in order to complete the builds.
I think seeing a completed mega structure on survival and knowing how hard another player worked is pretty cool.
If the generators were still working, one would be left to wonder if the builder really collected all the material or just generated it.
It doesn't take away from how interesting a build is, I just have more respect for survival builds versus creative, especially without generators.
Just a personal preference I guess. I like the game to be played per the intention of the creators, so that's without generators.
