If you want to find Diamonds without cheating and fast, there is this one simple way dig down a way to the bottom and than start mining and find a lava lake. After you find a lava lake mine each and every block around it. I am sure you will get Diamonds. I found diamonds, Gold, Iron and Coal near one lava lake. Just from around 3-4 blocks around the lava lake.
First, 'the diamonds around lava' is false, in fact lava actually can remove diamonds that may have already generated in the area. Diamonds can spawn in various different sizes, the average being 4 to 5, but up to 10 can form the vein. 1 diamond ore vein will spawn per chunk, however; underground terrain can remove ores, such as caves, lava, ect, leaving the chunk with no diamond ore in some cases.
Secondly one really does not need diamonds, and can acquire all diamond gear, tools, and weapons without ever finding diamonds. The key to this of course is villagers, one to whom you can sell goods too, to acquire emeralds. My choice for this is always the farmer as I can sell potatoes, carrots, wheat and pumpkins to, something i usually have a lot of. Then you just need a blacksmith or two, and your good to go. Village breeding is something I usually setup very early in game, once I have secured the area, and have a few farms setup.
Trust me in that you don't need diamonds in this game. I have a good 12 stacks of diamonds that I have found and not once touched because its much easier to get the equipment I need from villagers.

To tell you the truth you're right about using villagers trading for diamond armor and diamond weapons and tools... but the fact that you don't need to go looking for diamonds is false. In order to get achievements such as "DIAMONDS" you need to find and mine diamonds with an iron pickaxe. And there's also the achievement "music to my ears" which requires you to craft a jukebox and play a record in it... the jukebox needs 1 diamond as well as 8 wood planks to create. And there's also the achievement "Enchanter" which requires you to construct an Enchantment table (in order to construct one you need 2 diamonds 3 obsideon and a book).
I know you're saying that villagers can offer diamonds as a trade.. which is true. But having the right villager to do that can be difficult to come by. And I'm pretty certain villager trading of a jukebox and enchantment table is possible as well (I've never had it happen for me, bit I'm not saying it isn't possible)(also if it is possible to trade for an Enchantment Table you won't get your achievement due to fact that you're required to construct one, not trade for one)(unless it's a glitch of some sort... never tried it personally so again I have no idea). And there's also the time that it takes in ordet to jeal a zombie villager (achievement "Zombie Doctor ") if the seed you're playing on doesn't have a village or no villagers for that matter... which is very time consuming.
The idea here that Cire360 has told you isnt a bad idea honestly, but in my eyes it takes the fun out of doing all the work mining fpr diamonds.
If you want to use his way do have fun and enjoy. If you're looking to mine for them "branch mining is a good way as well. I prefer "Strip Mining" for obtaining large amounts of diamonds in a quick time.... it also allows me to find ravines that are along lava level (usually "Y14")
It drives me crazy to see people constantly referring to Branch Mining as Strip Mining. The two are completely different. Here's the Minecraft Wiki that explains all of the different mining techniques and their proper terms.
Branch mining is when you dig branch tunnels off of a main tunnel in order to find the ores.
Strip mining is when you flatten a mountain by stripping off every layer of it down to ground level.
Quarry mining is similar to strip mining but involves digging a large hole from ground level down to bedrock.
Some people love caving, where you just find a large cave and work your way down to diamond level. This is a great way if you love to be adventurous. Who knows what could be hiding in those caves....
Me personally I love branch mining. I dig my way down to Y = 12 and start my branches off in each of the four directions with a space of two between each of the tunnels. In Windows 10 Edition and Pocket Edition we don't have coordinates, so with that I just dig down until I find a lava lake and assume that I am on the correct level and start my branches around there. It's a little slow going, but you'll get the most diamonds that way if you are willing to put in the time to dig for them.
Well, I didn't mean that one should not acquire diamonds, just that they don't need to rely on what they find to satisfy their demands in respects to armor, weapons and eq.
In my current world i've centered my base between 4 which spawners. I've been digging a HUGE hold that is 140 radius, i've gone through countless diamond pick axes and shovels, but it didn't cost me any diamonds, the villagers are even kind enough to supply the enchantments that I so desperately need, such as efficiency 4 and unbreaking 3. I use beacons, and combine 2 efficiency 4 books to get a level 5 efficiency book, so I can insta-mine stone, so the digging goes much faster.
As i mentioned above once I secured the area I setup a infinite village breeder, separated out the villagers I needed to keep and killed off the others so that new ones could breed until i got perfect trades. Yes this takes time, some of the villagers are rather easy, such as farmers, but getting perfect trades from librarians for example is pretty tough, and its more luck then anything.
Create a duplicate of your seed in creative mode. Find diamonds there and note the coordinates.
