I've been absent from the forums for quite a period of time because of High School starting up, albeit I was still on the internet being a lazy bum. And now it seems that mod scripts have taken over rather that the old .mod files.
Anyways, I've become loads more experienced with code since I'm currently taking AP Computer Science at my High School, so, I'd like to try my hand at making some.
Seems like they are in javascript, but if they are otherwise, please tell me.

They are in JavaScript.
.mod files directly modify the Minecraft PE executable - i.e. the libminecraftpe.so file.
On iOS, you can also write mods in C with MobileSubstrate: this writes some code live when the program runs so that, whenever something happens in Minecraft, your code gets called.
Treebl, an iOS modder, realized that he can make a MobildSubstrate hook that, when run, calls code in JavaScript. This way, you don't have to set up hooks manually, and you can't as easily crash Minecraft PE.
BlockLauncher on Android began to support it - in fact, I implemented support for it an hour before Treebl released his official version (which, of course, added a whole bunch more hooks for more events, making me work harder)
So yes, they are written in JavaScript; the host ModPE script runtime provides the APIs, which the scripts call.
