Do you mean
Item.defineItem(); <--I meant ModPE.setItem
Item.setMaxDamage();
Maybe he meant like a real working sword with custom icon and lowering durability.

Yes other wise I have no clue what you are talking about. I'm a map maker not a mod Maker... yet.
All I can make is armor.
Since 0.11 you should use the new way to make textures:

ModPE.setItem(id, "example", 0, "name", maxStack);
If you would use it like this the item pictuce would be example_0.png
Put for Id your Id (I recommend a Id from 513 to 4095) and for name your name and for maxStack 1. You can use 64 for maxStack, but 1 works better together with the durability.
