I'm currently making a Minecraft PE inventory editor for Android. With this tool, you will be able to give yourself more blocks and items without writing a single hexadecimal digit or connecting to a computer.
So far, I'm able to load the inventory and display it in a list view. You can save now, but the interface needs some work. Also, I need to have the app back up the original level.dat on first load.
Features:
Loads and saves Pocket Edition level.dat files
Allows editing of all item slots - edit type id, damage value, and amount!
List of item IDs built into the app - just click "Browse"!
Upcoming features:
Back up level.dat before saving
Hide the strange slots at the beginning of the inventory list
Beta 4: (April 21, 2012)
- Added the item id browse activity
Beta 3: (April 19, 2012)
- Removed check for lack of player.dat after feedback that it is causing levels created after 0.2.0 to not display
Beta 2: (April 19, 2012)
- Added saving support
Beta 1: (April 16, 2012)
- Initial release.
Do you plan on releasing it on the Amazon Store or Google Play?
this can't work because slot 1-8 are all item id 255 and this id is not listet anywhere. maybe this are unused slots because on my maps it says amount -1 and that's not much ;-)
I'm disabling edits to slots 1-8 for the next release. Could anyone please figure out what they are used for?
Also,
I tried imputing 255 and damage 10 and amount -1 (first slot) into a wool block's slot. It placed as a slightly darkened stone block that broke instantly by hand. All of the damage values place the same block. I will continue to experiment until 0.3.0 is released on the Play Store, at which point this app will most likely need a major update to continue working.

I just put 255 with a damage value of 6 into a wool slot, and got normal-colored stone blocks that are UNBREAKABLE by any tool. I'm going to have to revert my survival world to get rid of them. I'll test out some other damage values before I do though...
EDIT: Ok, WEIRD discovery...
So I replace all of my wool slots with various damage values of 255, like so:
First off, after reloading the world, the previously-unbreakable blocks can be broken quickly now. Strange.
Anyway, I place all the 255s (damage values 0-11, and a 15), and they are all identical. Normal-colored stone, and easily broken.
Now in one of the slots, I typo'd and gave it block 254. That's a very bizarre block.
It appears to be a crafting table in my hand (this isn't 0.3.0, that shouldn't be there!), but with 1-side's texture on all sides.
When placed...it's a leaf block. Complete with leaf-sounds when placed and destroyed.
I'll be playing around more with this one.
As for the eight 255 slots at the top of the inventory, I have no idea what they are for. What's strange is that all but two of them have invalid damage values greater than 15.
By the way, 500ISE, is there a way to make the inv-editor not go back to the top of the list every time I edit an item? It would be a huge time saver for mass-edits.
EDIT: My bad, I found two weird blocks that are a result of my texture pack, not the game itself.
Original post:
Ok, there's some weird **** in the high ID-values. So 254 and 255 are the same for any damage value, as seen above. Next I gave myself blocks 242-253.
All but two of them (248 & 249) resulted in empty-hand slots, and after reopening the inv-editor, those slots were deleted completely...it now goes from slot 32 to 37, 38, then 45.
Anyway, these are blocks 248 (left) and 249 (right). The black parts are transparent in your hand, but not when placed.
They sound like dirt when placed and destroyed, and they are slow-to-mine with any tool.
I've seen them in terrain.png before; but I had no idea they were actual blocks. I don't even know what the textures are supposed to be...
The 248 and 249 blocks look like dirt with green squiggles, I noticed the green lines look like letters. If you place 248 to the left of 249, the leters spell "UPDATE" implying they are used in 0.3.0. The block 254 looks like a crafting table in your hand, and probaly places a crafting table in 0.3.0

Ah yes, I forgot about that! I do remember seeing those two weird "update" blocks in terrain.png when I was porting the texture pack. I figured they weren't used, so I didn't preserve them, and they got replaced by what the PC-version of MC had in those slots.
Sorry for the mislead folks, clearly those blocks aren't supposed to look like they do for me.

Thanks. Damage values can go higher than 15; I will look into having the list stay in the same position. Also, block 255 may be the invisible bedrock at the edge of the map.
is it okay if I advertise this for you 500 internal server error?
So the last byte is unsigned instead of signed? That's interesting. Is the maximum stack size in Minecraft PE 99?

Also,
Sure. Thanks.

Everything should work - is there a problem with the damage value editing?
Thanks.
