Is Minecraft too easy for you? This simple mod will make the game harder without adding any special mobs or changing the overall Minecraft feel.
Updated for 1.5.2!
Features:
- Zombies, Skeletons, Spiders and silverfish all have more health and deal more damage. ( Skeletons do the same damage )
- Iron, chain and diamond armor durability reduced slightly.
- Zombies can now see you from 32 blocks away, rather than 16.
- Zombies run faster to get to you.
- Skeletons can now see you from further away and will also take shots at you from a distance,
- Creeper explosion radius increased, which also means increased damage.
- Charcoal disabled.
- 1 coal only creates 1 torch instead of 4, every piece of coal will be worthwhile for your survival.
- Beds now only save your spawn point, your able to do this at day or night, however it will not skip the night anymore.
- Zombies and skeletons no longer burn during the day.
- Increased maximum limit of hostile mobs during the night, slightly.
- Works on LAN.
Adding specific features from this mod:
For those of you who only want some of the features from this mod, or want to leave one out, here is a list of what the different classes do so that you can add or leave out the features you want.
sq class - Bed changes.
yk class - 1 torch change.
sj class - Zombie changes.
sf class - Skeleton changes.
ru class - Creeper radius.
sh class - Spider changes.
se class- Silverfish changes.
yg class - Charcoal off.
uq class - Armor durability changes.
nn class - Maximum hostile limit changes.
I'm guessing the classes will change as i update the mod, so i will keep this list updated for every update.
Install instructions: 1. Browse to your .minecraft/bin folder. 2. Open minecraft.jar with 7zip or WinRAR. 3. Install Modloader. ( This may be optional, as it seems to work without it, i haven't completely tested this. ) 4. Drag and drop the mod files into the jar. 5. Delete the META-INF folder. 6. Play.
This is a great idea for a mod. Ive been looking for something that made minecraft more difficult, and I think i've finally found it. I spent a bit of time playing on a zombie apocalypse mod from 1.2.5, and I started missing some of the new updates. That mod was hard, but outdated. This one seems to be a fix though.
Version 1.1 for 1.5.1 is now out! I have remade the mod and added some of the features i planned.
@AwsomePwningGuy Thanks for making a mod spotlight! although it is a little bit inaccurate now though, as i have remade the entire mod from scratch and changed/added some features.
I've wanted this change to the ridiculous "sleep erasing the night" forever. Even with Dungeon mobs, Special mobs, & Infernal Mobs- if I kill 3 of the ubiquitous sheep, I can survive from day one with no shelter whatsoever as long as I watch for dusk. And it's just TOO tempting to sleep once you make a bed to change your spawn. Once again, someone has resurrected my interest in Minecraft right when I was about to be bored as _ _ _ _. Thank you very much for this!
EDIT- I plan to use this however I can, but I hope you eventually make it for Forge & SMP. And my main beef was with the sleep issue so I was wondering if some or all of the changes in this mod could be configured as options? This is going to be a rude awakening as it is and I'm going to have fun getting killed by it but a separated version of just the altered bed would fit in with the less hardcore mod setups I also want to play. Thanks again!!!
EDIT #2- I made a new setup with modloader and REI minimap with entities radar
and this mod of course. I played a half hour so far and it is a rush. I can barely stick my head out of my cliff hole without getting hit with a barrage of arrows. Luckily most of the skellies are so far away I can duck before the arrow travels that far. I've died a lot but it is fun because every bit of progress is rewarding. The mobs eventually wander off or despawn so it's not murder me 24-7. I highly recommend this mod.
@Notorious Thanks for the feedback! if you just want the bed change, just adding the sq class and leaving the rest out should do the trick, i also have a list for the other features too. As for making it compatible with Forge and SMP, I'm not sure how i would do this as I don't actually know how to mod properly I just changed some values and removed some code to make the features work. I'll see what I can do though, there is probably a tutorial i could use.
That sq.class almost works on SMP with Forge. It actually does work but it occasionally crashes.

It saves my spawn day or night without changing the time. It returns me to the spawn when I die. But then it crashes when I hit a leaf block or something. Yes I know it's not meant for Forge or SMP, but this experiment might provide a clue on how to make it function. I hope.
I have a suggestion to your mod.. creeper explodes if you are near of 6 blocks of him
Also, hostile mobs doesn't disappear if you get away.
would be great if you add those things in your mod xDD
Hey, guys. Quote me if you want me to respond. Otherwise I'll have no idea what the hell you want with me.
Friend Code: 1263-6258-8121 (Poison)
Friend Safaris: Poison: Swalot, Whirlipede, Seviper.
Hey Sallowf, would you happen to have a 1.4.7 version of this mod? I recently decided to revert back to 1.4.7 so that I can enjoy bump mapping and parallax occlusion.
Sorry but i don't think i still have the old versions ill be sure to keep the old versions next time.
Usually double or maybe just a touch more depending on the mob, sometimes more than double if necessary, it may seem like alot but compared to the old hostile mob health it brings them up to challenging rather than just a nuisance.
(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
SMP support is kinda a must for me, sadly. I play with friends.
Forge ... we have mods that are "must-have" that are forge mods. So forge in-compatibility is a show stopper.
I think if I ever update this mod, itll be with forge and have more interesting features like difficulty scaling over time, since I'm not quite happy with how difficulty works at the moment and even with this mod its just too difficult at the start as I really balanced it for someone who has diamond armor. I want to go a bit further with this mod and make it the best experience in terms of difficulty possible for minecraft, but right now i've got to finish school and learn to program java properly, also mod for forge or for the mod API if that happens to come out beforehand.
