I'm briman0094. I work with Calclavia and Darkguardsman on Assembly Line.
So, what is this awesome mod really about?! The name says it all! Assembly Line specializes in item and entity transportation and manipulation.

The most basic device is the conveyor belt:
This little guy can be rotated to any cardinal direction as well as modified to run diagonally up or down. It requires power from IndustrialCraft 2 or Universal Electricity, and will support BuildCraft in the near future. Only one belt every 20 blocks needs to be powered. You can turn it off with redstone, but keep in mind that only the belt that is receiving redstone will stop moving. The rest of the belts in the chain will remain powered and running.
The next device that you will need is the Manipulator:
This dude handles inserting and removing items into and from inventories. You can use a BasicComponents/UE wrench or a BuildCraft-compatible wrench (including an OmniWrench) to change its mode by shift-right-clicking it. The mode toggles between Insert-Normal, Insert-Inverted, Extract-Normal, and Extract-Inverted. Inverted and Normal have no influence on its behavior unless it is filtered (which we will get to later). If you shift-right-click it without holding a wrench, it will toggle between auto-pulse and redstone-pulse. Auto-pulse will automatically pull items out of an inventory every few ticks, whereas redstone-pulse will only pull an item out when the thing receives a redstone pulse.
The next device essential to any sorting system is the Rejector:
This mean machine will accept an Imprint (again, part of the filtering system we will cover later) and will shove any item drop that matches its filter off the belt in front of it. Careful when walking near it if you're holding the item; it'll punch you too. Requires power and can accept power from the assembly network (belts).
Now, you might be asking: Where do I put all of the cr*p that I sort? Well you have three options (okay, just three different versions of one...); The Basic Crate, the Advanced Crate, and the Elite Crate:
They're basically chests on steroids. They hold 32 stacks, 64 stacks, and 256 stacks (respectively) of one type of item. They can be interfaced with using any inventory manipulator from any mod.
Another device that would be extremely handy for manipulating items is the Detector:
This thingamajig will output a redstone signal if an item that matches its filter (I swear I'll get there eventually) is in front of it.
Filtering
[spoiler] See? I told you I'd get to it. The most vital part of the sorting systems in Assembly Line is the ability to filter items. This is done using Imprints:
These can hold an unlimited number of item signatures to describe what items should and shouldn't be accepted by a filterable device. You can imprint a signature onto an Imprint using the Imprinter:
The imprinter has a nifty GUI too:
This guy is powerful. Like, real powerful. You may set up a crafting recipe on the left and the result will appear in the output slot. You can also put an imprint in the slot marked with, well, an imprint, and an item into the slot to the right of that and an imprint with that item added to it will appear in the result slot. The crafting grid needs to be empty for this to work. You can add additional items to an imprint by simply placing it back into the imprint slot along with another item. If you place an item that's already on the imprint in the right slot, it'll take that item off of the imprint. Now, it may seem a bit pointless right now to have this crafting grid here. It's just a crafting grid! Here's where the cool part comes in: the imprinter will search its own 9x2 inventory as well as adjacent inventories when trying to craft, meaning you can place a bunch of raw materials in a Diamond Chest near it and just craft all the cr*p you want.
Now, the filtering. Yeah, I kinda got distracted. These fancy imprints can be inserted into a number of machines, including the Rejector, the Manipulator, and the Detector. These machines each have an Inverted state and a Normal state. In the normal state, the device reacts positively to items on its imprint:
The manipulator will insert or remove items on its filter into or from the attached inventory.
The rejector will shove any matching items off to the side instead of letting them pass. It will also spy on the item in your hand. It's pretty fierce; I'd be careful if I were you.
The detector will output a signal if there is an item on its filter in front of it.
In the inverted state, the list is inverted:
The manipulator will insert or remove items NOT on its filter into or from the attached inventory.
The rejector will shove any NON-matching items off to the side instead of letting them pass. It will also spy on the item in your hand. It's pretty fierce; I'd be careful if I were you.
The detector will output a signal if there is an item NOT on its filter in front of it.

Compatibility
This mod is compatible with Minecraft 1.4.7 as of present. It requires Minecraft Forge build 534 or higher to run. You must power your machines with either IndustrialCraft2 EU or Universal Electricity current for them to operate. If you need to adjust the behavior of a machine, you can use a wrench from Basic Components (UE), IndustrialCraft2, or BuildCraft 3 (including the OmniWrench from OmniTools).

Assembly Line is a compilation of many ideas from many authors.
Briman started MineSembly and merged it into Assembly Line (including the idea for a configurable item detector) and developed the idea for the Crane. He contributed a lot of logic code to the mod.
Calclavia created belts, crates, the manipulator, and developed the idea for the Armbot. He also helped a lot with the logic for many of the functions.
DarkGuardsman created the idea of a general assembly line mod and created many of the models seen in the mod as well as contributed some general coding help.

*Eh em*. We are not your co-developers. We are all equal developers and owners of this project. Don't try to put yourself in higher status just because we've decided to let you own the MC Forum thread!

EDIT: -.- there Calclavia; I reworded it.
Also, you forgot to add "now with 2 TRILLION DOWNLOADS"
Yes, I'm still working on filling out the post. You can use Not Enough Items to view recipes or look at the wiki here.
Is this mod no longer being updated?
Oh, the links are broken.
