hello, im living in a snow biome and i want to get a farm started but i dont want snow coverage. i started making a big half slab roof but mobs spawn under it at night and im worried about not getting sunlight, what should i do?
Crops don't need sunlight; they grow just as well indoors, where I place all of my farms, and actually, even better since they won't grow at night unless the light level is high enough. You can also use glass to prevent snow from accumulating but allow sky light through; it won't be be very noticeable if placed high up (at y=255; you can also make it completely invisible by using a color of stained glass that you don't otherwise use and use a resource pack to replace the texture with a completely transparent one; for Creative you can use barriers).

Put some torches where the dark spots are, that will stop mobs from spawning

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
