I have made already 3 breeders, but none of them has worked. Everything is constructed well, but it just doesnt work. My villagers pick up some potatoes but then nothing happens.
I see Shroomlight and Crimson Trapdoors. That means you're in 1.16. Village mechanics changed in 1.14 so villagers now use work stations. If you want a villager to share crops, you need to craft a composter and place it within a few blocks. Then it'll turn into a farmer villager and will share.

Watch out for the crabocalypse. Some say the day will never come. But it will.

If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
You say nothing happens after they pick up the food?
What do you have Particles set to under Video Settings in Options?
If it is lowered try setting it to All temporarily.
If they have enough food the villagers should get heart particles, if they then switch to angry clouds that probably means they don't think they have enough valid beds.
"If several villagers are next to an item, the same one picks up the item every time. Consequently, in constrained space (test with 1x1x2), the same villager picks up any item dropped. This behavior prevents villagers from sharing food in a one-block space."
Under "Picking up items." about 1/6 of the way down the page.
So, you could either make a breeder where they have more space to move around or you could try throwing them more than 8 stacks of food.
A villager has 8 inventory slots so if you fill up all 8 of the "dominant" villager's slots there should, I presume, be some food left for the other villager.

Now that I know what to look for I can see it happening.
The potatoes I threw them keep going in a loop, up to the right from the left villager, through the right villager, downwards, then back to the left through the right villager then back up towards the left villager.

No, that is not the reason why it doesnt work.
Ive been watching a lets play in the 1.16 where no farmers are needed and it still works, its literally the same build that the one in the pic.
Ive done what you suggest anway, but it still isnt woeking.
Also ive build other 2 designs and they also are not working.
EDIT: I found that the gamerule for mob griefing must be true, still some of the tutorials I followed still dont work with the rule on

Just testing.
I think I found the problem, the Wiki says:
"If several villagers are next to an item, the same one picks up the item every time. Consequently, in constrained space (test with 1x1x2), the same villager picks up any item dropped. This behavior prevents villagers from sharing food in a one-block space."
