How many flowers do you need to keep bees happy and at maximum production? Has anyone determined a minimum or optimum?
I'm pretty sure I've overdone it with 26 rose bushes and only 4 hives in my glass house and would like to remove most of these as they clutter up the place. Looks to me that several bees often go to the same flower and I doubt there would be a system saving their flower visit history. Also, are the 2 block flowers the same, better, or worse than the 1 block flowers?
You've absolutely overdone it. I keep over fifteen bees happy with a simple 4x4 square of poppies and dandelions. They breed just fine. You just need enough that you won't have something like eight bees trying to touch a single flower at any given moment.
Both flower heights have similar effects. Bees will just fly up to the top block of double-highs to collect pollen.

If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
