So, basically. I am a heavily technically interested player. Most of the time I'm building automatic farms, redstone etc.
I have built probably around a dozen slime farms and they have usually been pretty fast, even when I haven't lit up all caves around the area. Since I updated to 1.14 I have built two slime farms, one a few months ago where I had a single chunk slime farm with magma blocks to kill the slimes and iron golems on every layer to lure the slimes to jump down to the magma blocks. On that farm I also had spawning platforms on first as many as ilmango suggested in his tutorial: After I saw how slow it was I added more spawning layers up to layer 39.
The other slime farm I just finished building, it's the same design as the last one but only has one layer currently but still uses magma blocks, no iron golems yet though.
Both of these farms have produced about a stack of slime balls over an entire night, regardless of how many layers I have or regardless of whether I have iron golems or not. On previous slime farms I have built they have produced at least 9 stacks overnight, without lighting up caves. I don't understand what is going on? Is this a bug? Have they changed slime spawning significantly in 1.13/1.14??
Do you have any tips?
Edit: In all farms I've built I've made sure to set the servers view-distance to 10 or above. For the latest it is set to 16.
In past farms I haven't done that. I've lit up a few but definitely not all and I still got lots of drops. How do I know that I've lit up all caves in a 128 block radius when I can't see all caves.
Btw. Why I just built this slime farm is to collect enough slime to make a tnt duper to build an enormous 21x21 chunk perimeter. Then there will be absolutely no mobs spawning there, except where I want them to. So if it is only because of that, the issue will be non-existent. I just need to make it efficient enough to collect all the slime I'm going to need.
