What a great thread. This is just what I need. A huge list of things for me to learn about Minecraft. So I can play Minecraft for the rest of my life. Sounds good to me!
@ steam punker
Could you post some pictures or something in the thread? I really would rather not have to register for a website just to check this. Sounds interesting though.
@kiloari
Well, garsh.

It's fairly interesting, but I would like stuff to be of a smidge higher caliber than that.
I went through the water list and didn't see a topic involving a water canal not using signs or any other fancy stuff.
So I'll post my thead involving a water canal thing that uses no signs, ladders or other unnatural things.
Which makes it look cleaner then those other canals. viewtopic.php?f=1020&t=243125
If its not enough information or in depth enough I could create accomplish whats needed.
@NoSoul: So, is your water canal just flowing down the slope, or just on the actual level change? It prevents mobs from entering? What advantages does it have over those other canals?
To those that seem confused, the purpose of this thread isn't to inform readers of every possible application of even the most mundane game mechanics. I envision it as a sample of community ingenuity in emergent gameplay, like hugely detailed structures and complicated transportation devices and uselessly awesome redstone circuits. In a word, reading through this thread should inspire; if it does not, then I'm failing.
This isn't "the Thread O' Good Threads" per se. It's kind of like the whole "a square is a rectangle but not all rectangles are squares" thing, in that inspiring threads are good threads but not all good threads are inspiring. I feel like people ask to add threads as wanting to be in some kind of "elite" group or as a means of asking for social validation. Frankly, I will unabashedly be brutally honest and deny or accept threads based on these criteria.
The problem, however, is that then people might potentially be afraid to submit their threads for fear of being shot down. To this, there is no true solution. If I get too soft and let in some lesser threads, then I run the risk of watering down what should be pure concentrated awesome. If I'm too tough, people will never contribute and the list will be bereft. Given both extremes, I would choose more towards the latter than the former.
My advice is to suggest your threads, and if you do get rejected there is no real loss; it's not like I think any less of you if your thread doesn't inspire me. Just remember that you probably did write a Good Thread, just that it lacked an inspirational quality, at least to me.

omg keep it just the way it is, ur doing awesome. Publications are rarely prestegious because of the the writers behind them... it's the editors that filter out the crap before it ever reaches the light of day.

i'm looking for a cartographer program and I didn't see it in your lists. I don't know if I just skipped over it or something, but does anyone have a link to a good Cartographer program?

THANK YOU Paininabox for this awesome collection! I had previously managed to come in contact with less than half of this content (not by intent or lack of trying). Much inspiration to be found here indeed, and in that you have succeeded! Now, back to happily browsing new-found stuff...
