This is a really nice challenge thread. I like how it has become a compilation of challenges of varying difficulty and time to complete. Very well presented. I've been reading and watching some people's progress on their challenges and it looks a lot of fun.
I'm going to jump straight into the advanced human challenge. Since it's on the snapshots and thus slightly laggier (I just really wanted my custom terrain) I won't bother with OBS and I'll just stick to text and screenshots. I'll update every age I complete within an era. Since I'm still on Settler I won't bother posting anything yet. All I will say is that not being able to make tools yet is tough.
Sadly I stuffed up. I misread and thought any mobs are ok to kill from the start. So I've killed some cows and chickens, some zombies and some skeletons. Now that I've re-read and understand the rules I'll stop doing that until I'm allowed to.
The damage dealt from the zombies and skeletons as well as energy wasted travelling to find passive mobs probably cancels out any good I got from the salmonella-laced meat anyway... so my game isn't too ruined.
We're currently working on updating how the challenges work, so we're basically redoing them. In my opinion, they'll be much much better after the update.
About that stream, we should do it after school ends and after we release the update. Then we can stream ourselves creating a challenge, or that we can stream ourselves doing one of the update challenges (again).
Well, I guess it's time to leave my 314 posts rank. D:
Anyways, we need to get the server back on action and getting some hype about the stream. Otherwise no one will be watching us. And I think we should do the stream of us going for a while on one of the new challenges we're gonna do. That way people will be more encouraged to stay for as long as they can and work, and we will have a record of how we do it.

I'm having severe internet problems lately, therefore if you want to get work done, hop on the server and get some work done m8. There doesn't have to be anyone on to be able to get things done. And if you run out of things to do simply tell me so I can update more and keep the pace going.
But looking nice guys, keep up the work. Trust me, some challenges may seem long, but they are indeed worth it in the end. You end up with a masterpiece of a city.

I will be going away on vacation in the beginning June so I will start the stream after so there isn't a big break.I am thinking around June 20th maybe start earlier that week so we get into it a bit before the weekend. Then I'll probably stream around 5 times a week during the evenings (EST). If we release the updates before then then I will possibly stream one of those but I think the Advanced Human we have now would be a good start. Maybe Ill do the basic human next week and start with that. Thoughts?

I don't think we should do one of the advanced humans on the stream, but instead do what we decided to do on the next update.
I've been busy doing other things (like watching Ben 10 and trying to get a job). The only thing I've gotten done in the second stage of the beginner's challenge is the barracks. Nonetheless, here's what it looks like:
A creeper decided to say "hello".
The finished building.
The entrance.
The meeting room with the captain's room behind it.
The captain's room, unfurnished.
The soldiers' room, unfurnished.
The mess hall (the only furnished room in the build).

Anyways, I can't wait to see when the streams come. Well, I guess that I'll probably be in most of them, but still...
Anyways (x2), We need to get more than a bit of activity going on on this thread. It would be nice if people made more posts. We're open to any kind of criticism on how to improve the challenge. In fact, I am asking you to tell us how to improve it. Tell us. We want you opinion.
Anyways (x3), it would be nice if someone could volunteer to make custom mods for us. Yes, ghost, I know that many mods we could use can be found online, but there are some features we may want that those mods don't have. So please, if you know modding for Minecraft, please do help us.
I'm not sure if I've already posted pictures of what I've currently built or not, so I'm gonna go ahead and post some pictures of what's been done and such.
This was originally the second house from the first stage, but I realized that it was far too large and that I wouldn't be staying here for long after I finished the beginner's challenge (I'm going to build all the challenges on this world) so I decided to convert it into the resource outpost so that should I ever get lost or need materials and be unable to find them near the next build location, I can come here and grab whatever it is that's in excess (i.e.: oak wood, cobblestone, dirt).
This is the second house I built after deciding that the original second was too large. In order to build this one, though, I had to block off the waterfall you see in the background there. It made getting around hard and took up a lot of space. I'll try doing something more decorative with it later on.
Alas, the first house I slept in. It's currently acting as the treasury, holding all the required items. And by first house I slept in, I mean first house I hastily slapped together to avoid having to sleep with creepers another night.
I built a book store because one day I want to have this place set up as the Mecca of the world.
The 4x5 wheat farm (4 rows, 5 wheat each).
Once again, the barracks. Still no training grounds.
A beautiful morning sunrise. The barracks is to my left, slightly behind me.
A new addition: the well.
One of the resource hut's gardens, containing wheat, potatoes, and melons.
The second of the resource hut's gardens, containing yet more wheat, sugar cane, and pumpkins with some built-in space waiting for carrots if I get the luck to kill a zombie and nab one.
So, I guess that's about it.

K, guys, it would be nice if we had a wide variety of people making posts on here. This way will we not only get more posts and activity, but we would have more people actively talking about the challenge, which is always good. I'm trying to get more activity on here so we would actually have some people watching the stream, so help me out here.
Blaze, a stream would be nice (and I'd love to participate), but I'm not so sure on how long my computer's gonna last (it's a 5-ish-year-old Dell laptop), so I'd rather not say I'm gonna do something and then not be able to do it. I signed up for a college registration/tour day thing (called STORM Day) for July the 18th.
Once I get done with the beginner's challenge I'm gonna take some time to go exploring and find a nice place to do the next race and then just kinda come back toward the center once I'm done with that one and so on. May just do one of the other construction challenges for a break between them.

Just got back onto posting, but I do have something to share: Egyptian challenge, just cleared Stage 4.
Used Amidst to narrow down good seeds - I wanted to spawn with a desert actually nearby. Found a good one with a desert and a nearby jungle just a bit north of spawn.
Thus far my biggest gripe was mob-proofing the Pharaohs home - I chose for larger chambers than I usually do, to make the structure more towering and imposing. Kept finding mobs popping in, even when I was certain I'd lit everywhere. Second is that deserts always have mobs hissing at you from underneath. But its been fun so far.
I started by building a hut next to the riverbank. Good place for a fledgling farm. Now, I've divvied up the city into four districts: Farming, Residential, Academic and Fabrication. The Pharoah's palace overlooks it all, from the back - I've noted that egyptian constructs tend toward everything funneling to a focal point. Of the large pyramids, one is constructed of nether brick and houses the portal.
Gonna finalize the landscape with the walls coming up - Smooth it all out, and put the Pharaohs home on a more sheer edifice. Should give me the material necessary to build it, at the least.
VideoMiner7: That looks great! What tex pack is that?
Wow... so, it's been a long time since I've been back here. Busy with life and stuff, heh. I'm so happy to see that the FCB community is still going strong! That's crazy to me. I'm thinking of picking up a challenge again... I unfortunately lost my Northmen challenge (that I worked SO HARD on) due to sudden hard-drive death.
I'm interested in what's coming with the new challenge update. Anything anybody can talk about yet?
It's taken me 2 years to realise that this existed. Although, to be fair, I have been inactive for a long time.
Hi Warlock, it's nice to see that you've taken my challenge and turned it into something new. I remember that you were one of the first people to take to my challenge and post your progress (you got quite far through the classic challenge if I remember right, impressive!).

Hey Chris, welcome to the thread! The original creator of this was Amazingsniper8 in this thread here http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1185740-challenges-fantasy-city-build/ He does give credit to you for inspiring his offshoot. Unfortunately Warlock removed the reference back to that thread when he updated the main post to the new format. I am sure Warlock would not have a problem putting it back in.

I could but it would be my last post as I would probably be shot right after I hit the Post button. I can say that the updates will be happening in 3's. There will be 3 Challenges released each update as they are completed. we are almost done the third now we are about 1/2 way through it.
Also it has been confirmed that the Live Stream will be happening. We will be building on the server. Right now we have a tentative start date of Friday June 20th @ 9:00pm EST. This is without a doubt subject to change as we get closer but that is what is penciled in right now. More details will follow!

I've had a quick skim through the challenge (Unfortunately, I'm a little busy in my life right now so I couldn't read it all, but I'll be sure to visit again when I have more time) and I really enjoy how you've implemented races and the fantasy element into the challenge to set unique building restrictions which add more dimensions to the experience. I also think that it's really great that you've made the challenge a team project. Two heads are better than one, but getting people involved also adds to your thread's success.
This said, I am a little disappointed that I can't see any sort of credit to my thread for the concept in the OP (not to be presumptuous or rude). I love sharing other people's challenges with the community and I would be happy to reciprocate with a link to your own thread. As a member of these forums I can say from personal opinion that it's the community that appreciates it the most!
Ah Chris! It's actually made me quite happy that you've taken notice of us! This is obviously quite inspired off of your challenge. And yes, I did your challenge quite a few times and posted my progress and such. It was fun! You've found us in a bit of a bad time, as we're in the process of updating everything. The OP isn't that organized I could say, as well as races being scattered around and unfinished. It'll be much better then.
Of course I'll put a link up to your challenge! I'd rather us be cooperative than competitive.
Again, it's nice of you to have replied. Feel free to come back anytime to reply or even do a challenge! My inbox if open for any questions!
As for everyone else desperately waiting for that update! Do not fret, it is coming! However slowly! Sadly my internet connection isn't the best right now for whatever reason, therefore limiting my ability to speed up the process. I'm waiting for it to sort itself out before helping with continuing on with the update. Just keep waiting guys, it's coming!

I guess the only feedback I can offer on the challenges is that I don't mind if they're long, but I do like being able to get to iron tools fairly to the point so I can mine resources much more efficiently and build so much better.
Once this is done and 1.8 comes out, I'll take a look at the basic human, then the Northmen.
It's taken me 2 years to realise that this existed. Although, to be fair, I have been inactive for a long time.

Hi blazing_chaos! I'm glad that this thread that you're supporting is doing so well. A bit of friendly competition is always fun, and I can't deny that you've done a good job at making this thread an active community - something that I failed to promote as much as I could've, mainly due to my inactivity. It seems that even now you are striving to keep the thread interesting with your plan for a gallery.

All the best with your Challenge!
I wasn't actually going to make fun of people, but the mention of that seems to always motivate people to do better.
I'm pretty sure there is a credit for your challenge somewhere around. That's the only reason I went on to your thread and posted 2 posts.
(Oh, man! A compliment for my leadership(ish) and motivation skills! That's a first!)
Oh, ghost, that's not THAT much of a giveaway. At least you didn't specify what comes in the next update or exactly what the threes are.
Now, I wonder what it's like to be shot over the internet. Let me see.
Anyways, as you may imagine, the next update will improve the challenges. There will still be much left to improve after that, and we would love to see how you respond to this. Anyways, this is a new, unique way of doing the challenges, and makes more of a possibility to diversify the challenges. If you go searching through the pages, you may find some hint about it. TheWholeTaco started this whole chain of events with just one post. He said that the challenge isn't realistic enough. Hopefully the next update will fix that.
Yeah, I know, this wasn't that bad. I guess I won't be shot over the internet. Unless I say something really stupid and giveaway-y, like the fact that there's some early-prototype version of this new update somewhere in the responses. If you find it, you'll get a small sneak peek. There are also pictures of me, ghost, pure, taco, and a bunch of other people doing our first take on one of the update challenges.
Update will be coming soon, assuming we don't all fall out of our windows and die. That would definitely be inconvenient, won't it?
EDIT: This is outrageous. Apparently, the Minecraft terms of use do not let people make any commercial use off of Minecraft. That means no donator ranks, no VIP kits, no online stores. Nothing like that. It was not allowed for a while, but recently Grum started reminding people about it and telling them it's not allowed. Such a stupid idea.
Anyways, it would be nice if people could post a lot more often. I really don't like double posting or editing posts, and yet, if no one posts, I'll have to resort to that.
I am the almighty butterfly, creating glorious things with very little effort.
Here I am, about to proclaim that I will be more active. But the thing is, I probably won't be. I'll probably hop on the server to work on the update for a bit after this post, probably out of guilt, but I just don't think I can really be active. I won't lie, I won't say I'm busy. I have literally nothing to do. School is out, and here I am waiting for my mom to end her phone interview so I can make noise. The thing is, Minecraft isn't in my main interests right now. Hopefully, I'll pop in a little more frequently and do more work, but I just can't do this all the time or I will for sure lose all interest in the game. Don't count this as a goodbye, because it's not. Like I said, I will (guiltily) go on the server for a bit. Maybe right after this, maybe after a few hours, maybe tomorrow. I guess that about sums it up. Hasta la vista... baby.
I was debating on doing it on the server or doing it in Hardcore. I think doing it on the server would be the better option though.
