Hey all, just popping in, happy new years to you all!
I've noticed a lot of people struggle with completing full challenges due to just not having the time to do it. I came up with a pretty interesting idea that would make for a more laid back challenge if anyone is interested. Basically we just have a weekly build that everyone adds into their city. So for example it could be
Week 1: Lumbermill
Week 2: A defense system
This could be very open to interpretation to what people could build and also very flexible timewise. For week two one person could build a couple towers around their town, while someone else might build an enormous keep. The people who play 3-4 hours a day could build a magnificent lumbermill while someone who has a busy week could just build a home for a lumberjack. It'd be quite interesting the diversity we'd see. And after you've finished your weekly build you could expand your town by adding parks, homes, and other buildings to your hearts desire.
Every week we keep a running list of all the builds before it and when people post pictures of their builds they can be added to an example imgur album for new players interested in some inspiration. Anyways just an idea, thought it might be cool and inspire a little more creativity. Plus people could use whatever mods they wanted because its just a build that you can add to your city.
Thoughts?

Seems like an interesting idea... when you're talking about "one person... someone else... etc" do you mean multiplayer or like each person can be unique?
And it seems like this thread is a bit dead... we could try to save it but...
Not necessarily multiplayer, but more in a sense of the community as a whole, everyone who's following it could do what they wish with it. It would be pretty fun I'd think but who knows right?

Unfortunately most of the people responsible for the thread are adults and their lives are getting busy. It hasn't been updated in a while so it's lost its luster.

Adults? What are those?
Are you saying run an ongoing challenge for a few months and each week have a new "Thing" that people add to their town? That way people come back every week to find out what the new "Thing" is?
On paper it doesn't seem like a bad idea. The problem is getting hype. Also, do you think this will attract them to the other challenges here? I'm concerned it'll quickly turn into its own entity.

I think it could be interesting when it begins, to get a new idea to build in your city every week, then the challenge would never have to end and you would never run out of inspiration. But I fear that after a while the list of builds would get quite daunting for a newcomer, it might put them off starting anything because they don't know where they should start. Would this eventually become a challenge of it's own once there are enough builds to make a whole city? Or would it just stay as an overwhelming list of builds?
You could post it on a new thread with it's own set rules. Then link on the op as Add on Challenge. Then keep track by posting each weeks new challenge on the new thread that way if someone wants to start from the begin they will have a list. Make sure to link this thread there also so they know that in order to do that one that they would need to also start this challenge as well.
Yeah it probably would become a new entity, I'd link it to this challenge of course but I doubt this one is going to be revived. Its enormous and pretty much everyone on MCF has probably seen it so it might be best to start a new thread. And yeah I know all of us running it are busy, that's why i chose a weekly build because it takes next to no effort for the team to run so it's probably our best shot at getting something going. I'm gonna create a throwaway account to start it on so that way if one person gets tired of updating they can pass it on to someone else.
The build list will definitely become challenging for newcomers, but all they have to do is start where they come in. They can still pick and choose whatever they want to build and it's really only inspiration. I think it might do really well. Tell me what y'all think.
I still think the only thing we need to do to the current thread is update it.
We've been talking about new challenges for years and they still haven't fully happened. I think I speak for everyone when I say I'd rather see the incomplete challenge posted than promises. I believe having a new challenge here and/or updating old rules on the other challenges and stuff would really, really help. I notice the same patterns with my challenge. If I've updated it recently there is a higher chance that more people will get interested and come along and check it out. If it's been months, though? Nope.
[EDIT] Ghost, mah man! Where ya been? Long time, no see!
Yeah but the idea behind having a weekly thing is it doesn't require effort so it actually has a chance of getting done. I'm honestly super busy and I'm telling you now there's no way I'd get an actual full challenge done

I'd just like to point out that I'm even kinda busy and I spend maybe what, ten minutes a day checking on this? and that's only when I'm writing, like, an essay... when I'm not, 30 seconds tops. And yes it did kinda lose its luster but I feel like since this is such a broad concept it can be very, very expanded upon, with plenty of space for new ideas and implementations.
Yeah I'm a busy guy but I'm sure i could manage to check in once a week to drop the new build. Or whoever is tasked with dropping it. Anyways I just don't really find any appeal in writing full out challenges anymore, it's too tedious and the rules are a little restrictive imo.

I might not have seen you since november but I haven't seen Ghost since like 2014 lol
Lets maybe take a vote for the easy weekly thing? I can put it together tonight or tomorrow if y'all want
I don't see why not... but if you do make it, maybe make it with that account that was made for FCB threads? So that if one of us goes idle we can still access the OP?

Reread one of my previous posts I already addressed making a throwaway account. Because we all know eventually one of us is going to go idle.
Any naysayers 'gainst the weekly build?
PM Warlock274 or I for more information.
Not necessarily a naysayer, just think it'll help the thread if we ever get the European challenge up.

I'm all for the weekly challenge, it would definitely keep me interested in continuing to build my city.
Ye we already have that account tho, don't we? I definitely remember us having one. It's probably in one of the high rank discussions.
And no, I don't think there's any disadvantage to the weekly build thing so go ahead
