Thanks for finding that, I just fixed that so you just can't eat the items. You're supposed to be able to use them. Mostly because in the spoiler section labeled "Basic Rules" one of the rules state that shears and buckets do not count as iron items, you should still be able to use those shears to get wool.

Fantasy City Build Team Co-leader - Want to apply?
PM Amazingsniper8 or I for more information.
Hello everyone here at the Fantasy City Build Challenge! I was looking through the forums and found this challenge and it is really cool, so I decided to start the Elf Challenge. So far I've finished the first stage, and I should be done with the second stage at the end of the week. Here are some pictures of my progress.
Oooh! Booty-fall.
Oh, and...?
(Yay, I finally figured out how to make pictures work! Gad, it's annoying though! -to me- )
97% of teenagers would cry if they saw Justin Bieber on top of a tower
about to jump. If you're the 3% who is sitting there with popcorn
screaming "DO A BACKFLIP", copy and paste this as your signature.
Also, when in the far, far future when I really create a working world with all these challenges I was thinking of making a RP server or creating a GOTesc video thing. Would anyone be interested?
I haven't counted the number of overall places people can live I ask people to build yet (including those in the smaller sea village). I know it's a lot (especially by the time you get to stage 20). Add to that the various building requirements (that haven't been written) for the mod segments and you get a pretty nice sized thing going. It isn't going to be a population of 1000 because we all know that no one in their right mind is willing to build enough houses to fulfill that if they're playing survival. So, we adjust the numbers to be more accomodating.
Why don't we have a scale like this:
5-6 houses (18-30 pop) - Hamlet
7-18 houses (35-90 pop) - Village
19-30 houses (95-150 pop) - Small City
31-50 houses (155-250 pop) - City
51-80 houses (255-400 pop) - Town
Anything above "town" would range from Large Town to Megalopolis.
[EDIT] My math and reasoning is in the spoiler.
So let's assume that each house is willing and able to make 1-3 children. That makes the general population of each house range from about 3-5. I'm not including numbers above 3 children because that really only exists in situations where there's a lot of work around a farm or something to be done, so they make lots of kids to help out with the work.
Now, you'll notice that after the first population goal, I didn't use the number 3 ever again. I did that just to simplify the ranges a bit and make it a bit less teeter-totter. What I did do was multiply the lowest number of houses in the range and the highest number of houses by 5, which gave me a very rough population count. Obviously, this comes pretty close to the idea of a population of 1,000, but doesn't get us there. So why do I stop before 1,000?
I stop before 1000 because in order to even have that much population even assuming that each house has 5 occupants, you have to build 200 houses. I personally am neither willing nor able to build 200 houses, and I wouldn't expect you to be willing or able to, so I adjusted the ranges and population to something that felt a bit more comfortable. This would be stretched out along the course of a challenge so you're only building a few more houses at a time versus building them all at the same time. This is the way real-world cities have grown. One house at a time.
I like that, but arent towns usually SMALLER than cities? (this is from me)

So I finally got into the school I wanted to get into (one of the top art programs in my state). Now I'm just waiting for the letter so I can do more paperwork.
FUN.

I don't mean to be unapproachable. I accept critiques and suggestions well, so please, by all means, make as many suggestions as you would like.
Stage 2 is complete! Took me a day longer than I expected because I had to put in a lot of the finishing touches, and get A LOT of leather for books and the armor set. Also a quick question about the elf challenge: in stage 3 and after, the rules no longer say everything has to be built in the trees. Does that apply for the large library and town hall I have to build there? Because those seem difficult to build in trees as there gonna have to be multiple rooms. Anyways, here are some pictures of my progress!

Well it doesn't look like I'll finish Stage 3 until Monday or Tuesday because I will have barely any time to play this weekend and I still have to build the road and a couple other buildings so instead I'll post the pictures of my Tree of Life!
So, at around ten or something I decided to start on the human challenge.
Only now have I just finished the first stage so here are some pictures.
First House
Front: (you can also see the farm here)
Back:
I'm not sure if I like the roof, I think it might be a bit too tall but over all it really turned out nicely.
Second House:
Third House
It's really similar to the second house except that the roof is made of birch and it's a little bit longer. I haven't decided if I like the spruce roof or the birch roof better, there is tons of both types of wood around so I think I will make houses out of both for the rest of the town.
And finally, the collection requirements
64 cobblestone and 32 wood
I also made some really vague paths between the buildings out of cobblestone, I usually use gravel but I haven't found any yet so instead I used cobblestone.
Those are some really good looking buildings! Who taught you that?
No one in particular, I saw a lot of builds using roofs similar to that, a few videos and a couple of different adventure maps. I thought they looked pretty cool so I decided I might as well try my hand at them, I think they turned out pretty well.

Took a bit of time off writing and gaming to go outside for a few months. But now, I am somewhat (some what because I'm doing well with life lately, don't want that to stop) active again on here, for writing my own mini-epic challenge, and still playing this one too.
What has everyone been up to? How's the builds going?
EDIT: Went back and liked a few of the recent builds. So glad this challenge is still gaining momentum this year! Good job, guys.
I'm still working on the human challenge, but progress is slow, I keep getting blown up by creepers. I only need to build two more houses for stage two though so a progress update should be coming soon.
Hope it is still ok to post these. My Kids and i did the basic Challenge before we started on our races and i think that is a good start for anyone just starting. Since i'm back online i thought i would record a short video showing off the build. It was done on the Big Dig pack. Cause we were going to use the basic challenge as a base for future races to be built from. Hope you enjoy.
As a Side note: some of my post have been deleted from here that i posted from mobile? Wonder why? I haven't done anything against terms that i know of? weird?

could you tell me the seed, please, @biggreenbutton? Im having a hard time getting a seed for my elf city for the challenge.
@Dioniamaster101 Sure, the seed is -2466281547766755436.
Thanks.

Although nice with the little stalls, why not try making it out of coarse dirt or something instead of andensite?
Also... prepare for a little twist to this.

I'm doing fine. I started a Let's Play series for my challenge. Haven't heard much from anyone in a while.

My house in my let's play has been blown up twice now. *sigh* Creepers.
