FYI my base is in a desert, not sure whether it matters though.
So I basically collected a lot of acacia saplings. Space is not an issue. tried to create a tree farm but the problem is that they grow sideways making it a pain to harvest. how am i supposed to improve my acacia tree farm?
Wanna build my base out of it since i like the colour together with oak lol
That's just the nature of acacia. You COULD try to grow each tree in a sort of box to limit which shapes can successfully grow, but that will tend to slow down growth, and I'm not even positive that will work with Acacia the way you can limit oak height, for example.

Once I get a surplus of saplings I grow most of my trees in solid blocks.
I plant them in a 5X5 or 10X10 square, when they've grown I just chop a stair up the side and chop down the wood from the top.
I think that would work for acacia as well though you'd probably get more holes than with other kinds of trees.
With so many ungrown saplings you do have to be a little careful that you don't get suffocated by saplings that grow once you start cutting away the wood above them.
Grown singly, I think the problem isn't so much that they are crooked but that they are a bit too tall to easily reach the highest wood blocks.
At least they don't tend to have wood blocks hidden away in the leaves that keep the leaves from decaying.
I'd suggest placing blocks around the saplings to stand on to reach the tops, or plant them in holes.
They won't grow with blocks next to the sapling but they do grow with blocks diagonally next to them, and you can have a 2 block high step 1 block away from them.

if i place acacia saplings in holes will they be forced to grow upright?

Just testing.
if i place acacia saplings in holes will they be forced to grow upright?
if not i guess i will just use your strategy
Not entirely straight, but they seem a little straighter to me.
Just testing.
hang on did you just force your trees to grow straighter by building pillars to the sides of the saplings?
I'm not sure, I haven't really tested it all that thoroughly, maybe I just made them taller?
It seems to me that the leaves are higher up than normal?
Just testing.
