Just one thing- What nuclear bomb was so strong that it affected the sun? i dont think any bomb or explosive can really affect the sun.
More likely the force of the explosion and the radiation itself affected the Earth's sensitive magnetic field/ozone layer. Causing the Sun's rays to be intensified (Or more specifically less weakened.) That, or the radiation affected the human genetic structure causing humans to be sensitive to sunlight.
I got lucky on my start. I spawned next to a town, so I decided to ignore it for a bit while I foraged for surface supplies. After I had a supply of wood, saplings and cobble for picks, I INVEDITed myself a :Flint and Steel: and set everything in the town on fire, being careful not to collect any wheat. After the town was suitably demolished I dug into the church altar and proceeded from there. I don't think I'll be heading back to the surface anytime soon but if I ever wander past my airlock again I'll encase the church and go from there.
This is an awesome challenge provided you set yourself some tougher limitations.
So, I've been playing this challenge for a little while now. I have a decent tree farm, wheat farm, and I started a mushroom farm (though it has yet to produce). I don't have a "bedroom" as I can't make a bed, so I see no point in having a room dedicated to something I don't have. :tongue.gif:
Something I've been considering doing is to engage in some animal husbandry. Currently, this is only possible with chickens and, assuming chickens spawning from thrown eggs remains in 1.9, is likely going to remain that way since I can't think of any way to segregate generations from other animal types. That is excepting just arbitrarily picking one as being the "offspring" and moving it to another pen. Not to mention the difficulty of getting any other type of animal into a pen in your bunker in the first place. Not that any of that matters since animals don't reproduce naturally yet.
Anyways, the additional rule I decided on was that only 4th generation animals are decontaminated enough to be usable. Any other generation is still too heavily irradiated to use. My plan is to create 3 pens, two for the "dirty" 2nd and 3rd generations and one for the "clean" 4th generation and beyond chickens.
Alright, There's a mod that is similar to this challenge... it is called the solar apocalypse mod, Game chaps did a video on it and I feel that it is perfect for this challenge. It give you 4 days to get underground before the sun scorches the surface to a point where nothing can grow or live up top and if you go out side you burst into flames. I feel I shall use this mod along with the last days texture pack and will record this challenge. But first off I think I will make a model fallout shelter just for looks so I can see what my goal Is and I will Post a video or pictures of it. Great challenge idea! I cant wait to start!
RULE 1 (VERY IMPORTANT): Due to the damaging effects of a nuclear blast, the sun is especially dangerous now. Unfortunately, survivor, this means you cannot, under any circumstances, head outside during the day. Stay sheltered, and survive. If you have to, you can scavenge after sunset, but it is advised that the survivor stay in his shelter when possible.
Ah, I finally sucesfully completed the challenge using the H.I.V.E. 2044 map with no spawning of any items :smile.gif: It was hard but I did it :biggrin.gif:
You don't. You will probably have to bunker down underground with whatever supplies you could bring with you. That's sort of the point. The smoothstone lining only applies to any above-ground extensions you add later on. I would build my tree farm first, and work from there...
It does need revising though. I can't think of a reliable way to tell whether it's day without compromising the shelter, which could get you (hypothetically) killed. Suggestions?
Well, you said windows are allowed, but only if they're as thick as the wall their in... So maybe you could use glass blocks? Or maybe glass panes, which seem to be easier to use in large quantities. I dunno, what do you think?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Back after a long while, so yay? Because the forum is being picky over 12 pixels over the limit in width, here's a link to my signature!
Very Nice and very interesting, but just wondering, (And I haven't looked through all the pages of this topic to check)Are there any certain goals for this challenge or the shelter?
Thanks!

I have an idea, buddy. Nuke Day minus 1 (or one day before the bombs fall, for you newbies :3): gather supplies such as wood and the like for your time underground. Stock up on food and other sources such as wool, leather, etc. Head down that night and wait. (have normal texture packs for this period of time). Nuke Day: DO NOT GO OUTSIDE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! Between the fire, radiation, and fallout, you will die within seconds. (this is when you turn on Last Days).
Nuke Day plus 1-15: Stay underground, gather equipment and resources, and prepare to go outside IF YOU WANT. Otherwise stay underground :3 Nuke Day 16-Onward: If you decided to gather stuff for your journey back to the surface, go up at night (you can make clocks with gold ingots, etc) and create your surface home, complete with airlocks and all that good stuff explained in your rulebook ;3 HAVE FUN EVERYBODY!!
EDIT: When you go outside, you MUST have a Rad Suit on (Gold armor, if its anything like Game Geeks Fallout Texture pack. If not, then just wear armor ;D)

-General_Hewitt-
ozone doesn't work that way
This should require the player to wear a gold armor suit (hazmat suit in the texture pack)...

Hope you enjoy my video, and check out my lets play seris if you have the time!
