The possibilities....
For a start any merchant guilds are going to have a FIELD DAY with selling these.
They may just change warfare, meaning outfitting troops with specific potions and enchanted gear to specialize in their role on the battlefield.
Potion caches will be a big target.
Night vision is a cool one (I watched a youtube video of all the potions in 1.9pr2). Sadly it's broken at the moment, but once it works night fights will change. Though the new brightness setting half negates their effect.
Fire Resistance will SCREW OVER all lava defenses.. this will be an issue.
Higher jumps mean we can scale fences with ease.
Anyone see an advantage to "Quake Pro" FOV?

I just got an idea for the minecarts.
Yes, it may not be that useful for player travel,
but how about storage cart travel?
Fire it to send supplies from base to base on a network of piston-reloading tnt cannons.
It might work ^^
Invisible spies and sabotage, with night vision anyone...?
And with lava proof to get in...?
And...explosive proof?
:biggrin.gif:
Dynamite the base with out being seen and raid like hell. Invisible army for the win.

I beat two super hostile maps, see of flame 2 and spellbound, have to finish more. Plan to do inferno mines for lulz and win when it goes out. Have fun!
Of course, we're here discussing how to wage war IN minecraft, and not how realistic Minecraft war is or isn't. Potions are a reality, and it's our duty on this forum to figure out how to make the most out of them.
@Glowstonesword:
Minecart cannons without a player as a passenger can actually have very good range, but it would be very hard to aim it at the correct target, and it would easily give away your position.
The main thing about shooting TNT cannons is to be unnoticed because they can take quite a while to set up, and in that time a sabotage group would be able to come and attack you before you even set up the cannon. The best way not to be noticed is to shoot the cannon from maximum render distance, meaning you set up your cannon at the point where it disappears from max render distance. You could also make a facade that matches the surroundings so that you can shoot from a shorter distance and probably not be seen. I've seen this from one of keishar's videos, I will post it up later, it's very amazing.
Wow. That was very imformative! I like his cannon design. It's very good for getting the most force out of your charge. I vote this goes in the OP (where's Val? He's been online). What we need now is a chart or something showing how far certain charges in a specific cannon send a shell. Apparently, in this cannon, 3 TNT=60-70 blocks, 7=120-130, and 11=200-220. What are the values for in between those numbers?
Err, hello, i wish to be initiated, and here is the form:

Muffins.
I have read your very in depth guide to the art of war. I, as an experienced spy and strategist, adore this thread and all the ideas stated here.
But, I have noticed a key factor which allows Aerial Combat
By using a combination of minecart tracks, some food, some TNT and some armor, you can blast your troops across the battlefield, as far as a TNT can send you.
This allows for drops off mountains, or maybe even for spying capabilities.
Also, pistons and falling blocks are a very helpful device in the art of sabotage and secrecy.
Underground vertical TNT cannons which, by usage of redstone repeaters, open the top and fire up into a sky fortress, then close without a sign of what happened?
Falling sand with TNT underneath, triggered by redstone?
An underground aerial assault (mentioned above) base?
The possibilities are endless.
I just hope you read over this thread again in order to find more about the art of warfare.
Yours Sincerely,
Glowstonesword.
This is similar to a "drop pod" idea I had; if you have a castle in the sky, you can put lines of flowing water leading out of the walls and a chest full of boats to allow for quick troop deployment to the ground, for defense or for retreat.

Or just have deep pools of water below it, so your troops can jump down. That's faster, and it doesn't leave an easy way for your enemies to get into your base. Of course, it also raises the question of how you get into your base.
@Gobbie and Locke
well, those a great ideas you two, Gobbie gave us a slower, but easier to use tactic (as in, your soldiers can climb back up), and Locke gave us a faster but less... gah, I don't have a word for it, but the main thing is the soldiers and people can't get into your base when they're down there. What I think, is that if you are able to combine the two and make it so that somebody it inside of the castle watching over and can send water down either with buckets or flicking a switch that makes pistons move and release the flow of water when needed, along with holes to jump down from with water pools beneath them so that you don't turn into a pancake before you are even able to attack your enemy. The floating fortress idea also allows you to have a height advantage over you enemy, which is very important in almost every kind of combat, be it close range, long ranged, melee, or aerial. This height advantage allows you to get Crits on the enemy soldiers if they are within your range while you are falling, or the ability to shoot them with bows while falling or standing on the platform.
Falling+Shooting a bow= Very epic, but very hard, but almost every time it's a critical hit!
Hmm.
I just had a big thought...
If you put minecarts, filled with creepers, and sent them up a ramp...
You can use mortars...?
I have to try this out. I'll post the results later.

Wouldn't TNT cannons be more effective though? and less expensive in terms of iron.

well... a mortar fires up... and the shell is self propelled...
But besides that, I wonder what their faces were like when all of the sudden a creeper flew our of nowhere in a minecart and exploded them!

Moving through lava is still extremely slow, and lava defenses are still the best option for walls.
Well greater FOV does mean you can see more of the battlefield at once. It's slightly harder for someone to approach you unnoticed.
