This is a bit of a defense tip on a unbreakable ( not really, probably takes a few mins if you set it up right and don't blow the other guy to pieces a few seconds in) wall.
In this case:
= wall enemy is trying to get through (sand/gravel only)
[] =sign =pressure pad inside of base
[] [] []
...etc to bottom of the wall
at bottom: etc.
Tunneler breaks sand/gravel, knocks off sign, lands on pressure pad, triggers tnt blast localized to that area (if the enemy is cannon-less) based on which pressure plate was triggered. Signs bounce off inside walls. On top, you'd end up having a humongous wall of sand/gravel. This works against diggers, and if you really want, you could probably find a way for the pressure plate to trigger a lava/water flow. Oh, and it requires loads of signs/sand/gravel. And time.
Maybe water/lavawalling the contraption would work? I mean, the whole thing would look absolutely terrible, but still :biggrin.gif: it's awesome

Will do! Keep working on your experiments :tongue.gif: Thanks for the recognition

I know how they work, I just feel like a boat filled with water shouldn't float up XD But then again... creepers with no arms climb ladders... and we can light tnt on fire with magical red stones... I might just have to deal with there being boats that can climb up waterfalls... How's the boat docking write-up going?
I'm thinking about starting a war department of the MSF. Would you be interested in being Head of Naval Operations

SENDING IN BOATS!!!!
I mean, you can send them in minecarts, would it be possible (if totally improbable and stupid) to somehow get a creeper into a boat and send it somewhere by manipulating water currents? I mean, this isn't going to work anywhere outside of the ocean.. but still.. this would be sick :biggrin.gif: auto-creeper panic thing

Sure i would love a seat in the war room. So far i have a proof of concept the the elevator brings you up to a small static water pool with a airlock (using doors) to bring the boat into the main harbor where you can go down either of the locks on each side (Exits) where you can send the boats back down to ground level. Im working out some bugs and finishing construction this all should be worked out by late sunday night maybe monday. But im still working on ironing out some bugs (possible suffocation) with slow sand. So far im looking at ways to get the boat up safely (without killing the rider or breaking the boat) it CAN be done but its buggy ATM with some glitches to iron out i will post pictures of it once its done until then. For a fast break done i've created the floating dock you can dock boats there. you can ride the elevator up without killing yourself from collision into the roof (high ceilings help a ton). Now its just about finding a way to make the system more effective as a whole. But the thing is if i CAN make this a streamlined system it will be the most secure building in the history of minecraft war.
the only thing the guide dosen't account for is Evacuating troops. There will be times when your in a bad spot or faced with a superior army its the smart move to run. But the guide fails to state the Proper way to run Diveshafts,boats,Lava, you get the point. Knowing when to run and conserve resources will make you the victor

The thing i think Expansion on the food section would be Invaluable.Fish is hard to get and can't feed an army. Bread can be mass produced quite easily but isn't great for in battle recovery so what that leaves is pork. Now to get pork you need land to search for pigs on "Hunting grounds" is one of the MANY practical benefits of holding land. Also i think you need to focus on writing and have your Underlings work on the experiments most of us would be delighted to conduct some experiments.
I had an idea. So say you've got a man on your side who can count quickly, and accurately. You make a makeshift bunker outside the enemies wall. Have the man count the rough amount of blocks from the bunker to the wall. This is value one (n).
Next, build a portal to the nether. Make sure that the enemy can't see it. See where I'm going with this? Move the appropriate amount of steps in the nether and make a new portal, just make sure you head in the right direction. Usually the best amount is roughly (n/8 + 1). The extra one allows the person a near guarantee to be INSIDE the base. Move your soldiers through the gate. Build more gates inside for rapid random entry to the enemies base. Sure the enemy can defend ONE gate to the nether in there base, but how about 4? By building more portals in the proximity it's easier to be random, and gain the upper hand. So what if you spawn UNDER the enemies base? Bonus. Enemy doesn't know what your doing yet because you hid the portal. Best thing to do is make a quick room under your bunker to hide the portal, because then the enemy can't even see the particles. But back to the main part. UNDER the base allows for you to dig up into the base from beneath. If you move around a bit and can figure out the general height from the cave without being seen, then you can even set up a perimeter of TNT and blow out the entire floor of the enemy's base! Sure to cause MASS chaos. It also ruins most sand/gravel traps, and now a large portion has fallen to the ground.

If you've EVER messed around with the nether you know this just isn't do-able
If you've EVER messed around with the nether you know this just isn't do-able
I very well DO know that it's doable. All it requires is a brain capable of on the fly calculations. I know plenty of people on the forums that could do that.
But in all interest, why isn't it doable?

If the portals encounter a area already covered by something they will just MOVE them most of the time even IF someone can do the calculations the portal can spawn almost ANYWHERE in the nether now if it spawns 5 blocks to the right in the nether fine but in the real world thats 40 blocks to the left. Not to mention moving a troop through the nether will get them killed by ghasts.
Not to mention actually Making the portals would drain obsidan now obsidan is VERY valuable when it comes to warfare because its blastproof wasting it on something that MIGHT work is a terrible idea
@Doctor G33k
I haven't ventured to even think about the Nether yet in terms of Minecraft war, but this is a good suggestion. However, Just as joe51498 has pointed out... in the current state that the nether is in, this isn't yet a viable strategy XD. Once the Nether becomes a little more predictable and less glitchy [probably will be by the time SMP damage comes out anyway] this may be viable technique, though it would take a very large amount of time and, like you said, someone with considerable knowledge to be able to pull it off accurately on an often enough basis. It would also, as Joe also pointed out, drain valuable Obsidian vaults.
@BOOMcow
I suppose I could write up a piece on the different jobs, it'll be fun.
How buildings are constructed is also important... I should probably consider that as well, thanks for all your suggestions!

Also your GIVING them obsidian they can unlight the portal then you've given your enemys 14 obsidian per portal
I've got a tactic to add to your OP, involving Naval Warfare.
So you've got a nice big ocean surrounding your castle. Wonderful! But what if enemies launched a large naval assault, and were structuring cannons not too far away? Oh crap! Lets get some boats out there and stop them! Now you could just plop down some boats after jumping in the water, or you could have and underwater harbor! Using the underwater harbor (building it deep enough so enemies couldn't swim down into it) you could launch a large fleet within a split second, going full speed, and catching the enemy COMPLETELY unaware. Using this tactic, you could quickly and efficiently stop enemy naval threats.
@Kromeh
I've just seen one of those in a thread by bwolfert Etho [sorry, I credited the wrong person, I was thinking of a different thread by wolfert...], they're really impressive. I've done some work with underwater harbors there not useful for deploying anything larger than a fireteam and using them as the main way to deploy troops is just stupid.
EDIT: Its a PAIN to deploy troops this way first of all they would need to go down into a tunnel grab a boat ride the elevator up then start shooting. Not to mention if you only have one water elevator your sending your guys out one by one into a killing field now a Multi-channel is both easy to sabtoge AND hard to build. Oh also when you send your guys up the water elevator there HIGHLY visible and letting everyone know where your troops are coming from is NEVER a good idea Underground docking stations work very well for small scout posts and i've done some stuff with it but trying to employ it as a full fledged defense method is inpossible.

He definitely didn't say that he thought they should be used as a main way to deploy troops. And I agree with you that it's not a viable way to do so. But being able to dispense a 3-8 person boat squad all equipped with bows and arrows at just the push of a button? You can't say that a tactic like that isn't viable...
Why would it be a pain? Just grab the boat and go. Your job IS to come out shooting.
The problem is security. If people swim down the boat release elevator they could try and break into the base this way... it would either be best to separate such a struture from the main base, or have intense security inside...
Also, I think you're viewing it differently than I am... it would be a 1 time blitzkrieg type of thing to catch them off guard, not a re-used tactic because as you said... having them see troops repeatdely exiting from an area is a bad idea...
