I hosted a server with pvp on my home computer... it didn't SEEM to lag but that was only me vs mobs.
The damage update is slighlty disappointing because of the bugs it causes, but it's not too annoying. The mobs still move wierd though. What I REALLY want to see is what happens when we have players attacking eachother. This should be fun to test. I assume whoever is ready can start as soon as the server is updated?
CarnageCraft ip will be the same. Im going to post the war scenario that i had in our clan forum. Along with your idea. So I guess we need to pick teams. It will be 5 vs 5 for now. I will add a bigger cap depending on this test run.
-------
We are currently building up the spawn area. Having some sort of war/battle scenario is highly overdue. Im looking for someone who could lead an opposing army to mine. For training purposes only. This is how it would work.
Two armies are to travel in opposite directions for a certain amount of time. Set up a main base. You must defend the base at all times (or maybe we have safe times? not sure). Everyone is given time to gather resources and build up defenses.
You must set a warp at a predetermined distance from your base. Both sides must do this. This is the siege zone and can be used by your enemy. The people using the warp (or sieging) will be at a greater disadvantage. I can see this being abused and Im looking for suggestions to fix it.
From Maximus:
If you want we can make it so that we each build a 3 block tall obsidian stack somewhere. That can be considered the "Flag" which you must protect at all costs. If your 3 blocks of obsidian are all gone at any point in time, you lose.

What do you guys think?
Posted on our forums. I think we should stress test the server. See what bugs or glitches we can find.
I mean it's just a test so I don't HAVE to lead. But we should first work on getting enough people to actually make this fun... and to see if the server can handle us all XD

Here's an idea... Get a team of 5 or 10 people, and set a "date" for the "war". Say... 1 week from X time. Each team has 1 week to gather all the resources they need and construct their obsidian "flag". At the end of the week, both teams fight it out at a set time.

Also: I updated the OP a little bit yesterday, and a little bit today :smile.gif: Check it out!
While I'm at it... here's a list of some of my priorities... tell me if I'm missing anything important:
**** Happy2Pester's telephone?! [he contacted me by pm with an awesome idea, I'm waiting on it]
**** CaveHybrid Sun Tzu Quotes / ideas? [basically I just need to incorporate more Sun Tzu quotes]
**** Terraforming [Molding the land to your advantage, on a large scale]
**** Sword fighting - 5n? [We'll all probably end up contributing to this one somehow]
**** Etho's boat design? [I have to ask him permission to post it in this thread]
*** Using monsters to your advantages [I gotta think something up for this, it'll just take time, not too much brain power]
*** Using reeds as makeshift windows - CrazyLemon64 [this was an interesting idea I want to look into]
* Economy buildings? Things that take only 1 stack to build? I forgot who suggested these...
Sign me up on Blue team. only particualr reason is becasue I don't like the color red

Also didn't see this, I didn't quite suggest it I just kind of made it but I suppose more or less it's the same thing since it would be a most frugal choice to build "lightly" so to say.
Perhaps netherstone could be used to ease the work of the hunters, as it functions as an excellent trap to slay any random creature that wanders upon it. Again, it is useless against players, but as these traps are easy to spot from afar, seeing one go out would cause some investigation, making sabotage of these structures a questionable tactic for spies. Actually, this could be a merit to the cactus+netherstone wall, it would be easy to see any breaches in said wall, causing a slight bit of damage to them if they want to remain unnoticed. And as I just mentioned in this very post, this wall would serve as a trap for the fiends of the dark, allowing safe collection of their salvage.
I'd like to revisit the idea about Obsidian flags....
Why not make them Diamond/Iron/Gold flags? Maybe 1 solid block of each? Or just 3 solid blocks of Diamond?
This way, there's an actual REWARD for defeating the enemy and taking their flag... an economic reward.
Also, perhaps some rules about WHERE the flag can be and how well it can be protected.. For example, it shouldn't be IMPOSSIBLE to collect/destroy. It'd be pretty easy for a team to climb to the top of the world, set up a few Lava Source blocks, and have them flowing over the top of the Flag so that no one can get to it..

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Perhaps we could do something where the flags are pre-placed, and the teams must simply build a fortress around it. That means, you start off with like, 3 diamond blocks on a golden pedestal, and just build your empire around that. Also, the opposing team does not know the exact location of the flag. That would make for some interesting plays, with phony bases, and such.
When is this battle starting, again? I'll be free all weekend.
This isn't a real war, it's a test war, and the first one, so we're bound to be a little bit unorganized...
Also, we're not doing it for resources, it's going to be like a capture the flag style game, which is why using obsidian blocks to make the flag is the most proper style. Obsidian blocks take the most time to mine, are the hardest to mine, and if you're able to get them, that means that the enemy is definitely incapacitated [roughly just 45 seconds to mine them all? + time needed to escape the base with them... if the enemy can do nothing for that long then you've won].
If this was a war of resources, then we wouldn't need a flag, and we would just work on developing a hidden cache of bases underground with which to store our resources in.
Also, it doesn't matter where the flag is placed, as long as it's above ground. The only restriction is that admins cannot place bedrock around it to protect it... and you can't make a wall of obsidian RIGHT NEXT to the flag, or else nobody can tell the difference between the flag and the wall... otherwise it's fair game. You could technically build a huge wall of lava around your flag, sure... but that might make it EASIER to steal of nobody can see someone sneaking through the lava.
Edit:
The teams look like this so far...
