You focus a lot on war and TNT, but never really explain where you get it. I guess there is a job for that.
I also regestestered to say this.
Personally, I think, depending on what type of war you're fighting, and what game mode you're focusing on, TNT would be supplied either Pre-game, or by a Mob Trap that you would create...
If you're doing a scenario that involves castles out in the open, you could make giant creeper statue sentries. Lined with TNT on the inside. Or as a sort of trojan horse ambush thingy.
The furnace trap can be made very compact. The one you see is overly complicated, because this is the house of inefficiency after all, but the same concept can be executed on a much smaller scale, you should be able to fit it in just 9 blocks. A side view would be:
[]
Glass = ice, Flower = Redstone torch, Wood = pressure plate, Mushroom = Redstone wire. The entire trap is only 1 block wide, and 3 deep and high. You can easily fit this into a wall, with only the furnace visible.
Hello Val.
Great thread, by the way. I read most of it, it was pretty good. =D
However, a lot of this thread has nothing to do about minecraft, rather just war in general...so just keep that in mind. I almost thought you copied and pasted some of this info from the Chinese to English document itself?
Minecraft is fun, but I doubt pvp will be 'okay' for a long time. If you've ever played on a "PVP" server, it just becomes sort of pointless. I know you mean this not in the general setting, but often it just boils down to pure idiocy.
Also, lots of these methods are sketchy and unreliable. For example, cannons can be great for sieges--however, they suck against players. Hell, they suck bawlz even against big armies with slow movement. Why? Well first of all it depends on the type of cannon. I know of two kinds, they standard front cannon that can only fire in front, and a side cannon that can fire to the side. It takes a long time to load both kinds, and sometimes once it is loaded you won't be able to fire it and the person will be at the other side of where you want to fire. Thus, you have a loaded cannon that is facing the wrong way. It takes a long time loading and deactivating a cannon, so basically it is useless if that happens. You can only pre-load front cannons, but then you would have to have a along a wall to get anybody. Lots of these methods take LOTS of resources too. I think eventually people will get death towers though. (Towers that have darkness, that harvests mobs) but I still like your thread.
I approve.

There are cannons that are aimable. There is the cross design which can fire in all 360 degrees, and the Hyperion and Imperial avenger's designs, which can fire in 180 degrees in front of the cannon.

No. You're being purposely ignorant, and a smartass.
Yes. Sorry if I put it in an odd way, but I meant that once they are LOADED they cannot be deactivated until they either are fired in that direction or something. So basically the enemy could see where you are aiming your shells and go to the other side...get it?

@Cookiepuss
I realize PVP between strangers will be hard to regulate. I have turned to Clan PVP to be more structured. Large organizations will be able to structure things akin to league matches, in order to make Minecraft War more viable.
Also, the problem with disputing the methods as resource sinks isn't TRULY valid because resources in minecraft are infinite... and with a simple mob trap, you have many of the resources you need at the tips of your fingers.
Cannons... are indeed a little gimmicky. Reinforcing a base with cannons in certain directions is probably a better idea... and using them to shoot at people probably wouldn't work out too well XD.
Yes, I forgot his name...kiershar? Yeah but I saw his mob tower. I thought it was great. So yeah, I doubt resources won't be much of a problem to people who are settled in.
On another note, I sort of would like to have the online minecraft be like a big world where other players can traverse. Obviously many problems with that I don't have to mention, but still, it would be pretty nice knowing not only creepers and other mobs are out to get you, but other civilizations of other players! Ah, what fun.
P.S. Why is this thread so dead? It's a great thread...and it just turned Beta. I was expecting a flood of posts?

Valerius, have you checked out this mod? I think this might add some more techniques to warfare, and will be balanced due to the abilities of each weapons. viewtopic.php?f=25&t=110160

Guns? XD... I'm not so sure about that one.
By the way, Peekayer... are you going to join ONA ever?
Guns aren't new, they suck, cheap and unfair. These guns however, are balanced, the first and cheapest is the weakest with 1 bullet and has a high chance to blow in your face, it can kill you. The second gun is the also one shot, but it's one hit, on mobs any way. The third gun is the most expensive one to make with 6 rounds, but each rounds are significantly weaker. They also deteriorate over time.
Oh sure, I only thought it was invites only.

Often, doors are not protected well (IMO), so one thing you could do would be this:
First off you want to hide the button/lever/etc to open your door. Make it well hidden, so that only you/your army can enter without having to destroy the door. Now, since the other army will just destroy the door/blocks under the door (to remove the door), here's what you can do:
= door
Obviously you'll want to hide the lava, so there'll be cobblestone or other stuff in front so the trap isn't blaringly obvious.
What happens is when they destroy the door, sand falls. This blocks the door, but they don't see the lava just yet. Once they destroy the sand, the lava pours out on them, causing many deaths.
If they destroy the cobblestone beneath the door (usually faster), then the sand falls down, and the lava immediately greets them with a warm hello.
Personally, I think, depending on what type of war you're fighting, and what game mode you're focusing on, TNT would be supplied either Pre-game, or by a Mob Trap that you would create...
THE REPLY IS YES
I also don't get your joke =/
@sd5x - XD Fire arrows don't do more damage, though. Or at least not yet...
@Blagob - XD. It WOULD have shock value. Might also leave huge craters right outside your castle...
Guys! Check out my fire-tech thread. It needs love :smile.gif:
