Can multiple people fish from the same 1x1 pond? If so, that could definitely produce much more food, faster, than pigs or farming ever could.

Hm... I'm not sure, that's a good question! I don't see why not... except maybe that the bobbers might interfere with eachother...
@UberaDpmn
XD Thanks! It's the positive commentaries that keep me motivated to work on this. I'm sure now that I have other people working on new things with vested interests they'll appreciate your compliments too :smile.gif:
and cooked fish heal more than baked bread anyway...
I believe they heal the same amount
Raw Fish = 1 Heart
Bread = 2.5 Hearts
Cooked Fish = 2.5 Hearts
Cooked Pork = 4 Hearts
Apple = 2 Hearts
Golden Apple = 10 Hearts
Mushroom Soup = 5 Hearts
Raw Pork = 1.5 Hearts
Fishing requires string though... and that means trouble. Whilst it is a VERY effective food source, you need to supply bows first. Until a mob trap or something is created, it will take a while to get a sufficient amount of string.
I suggest STARTING a base with wheat. Starting. It will provide a steady food source until a steady amount of string can be acquired.

The one bonus of wheat is that it grows while you fight, instead of pork, which you need to kill first, and fishing, which renders you unable to do things until you get a catch. And you are guarenteed to get at least some wheat. Also, it doesn't need a furnace or fuel, which you can instead use for iron ore.

Warriors of Chaos!!!
Khorne, Slaanesh, Tzeentch, Nurgle - So many ways to die, so few times to do so.
Sorry guys, I guess I should've checked my facts first XD
So then it's settled?
Start a farm, once you have a surplus of string begin reeling in those fish... but now that I look at it... grilled pork really does heal a nice bit more.
Some combination of all three food sources shouldn't be too hard to maintain.
As they say... everything in moderation!
Plus, our minecrafters need a balanced diet :wink.gif: XD
And you can build a Pig Killing Trap, to harvest pork for you, you'd just need someone to go down every 2, 3 minutes and grab the pork that's been harvested, then bring it to whoever is in charge of the Food Roasting Furnaces.
A floating ship base. Built near height-cap, so the only way to get up is to pillar. It's main advantages would be that you could see all enemies coming, and that you could hit them, but they'd have a hard as hell time hitting you. Arrows would work very poorly, and the only kinds of cannons that would work would be vertical launch cannons, which are very hard to create and much more likely to explode. They would take much longer than traditional cannons to create as well, so your army would have plenty of time to bomb them, or kill the workers. The primary defenses would include archers, lava falls, and TNT bombs.
holes in the bottom of the ship would allow lava or TNT to be placed, where it could be activated and begin it's descent. Lava falls would be very useful for taking out enemy cannons, because it would bathe them in lava, making them unusable. TNT bombings would deform the terrain, and if aimed properly, could take out a pillar builder. The base would be nearly impervious to all enemies, until they finally got in. The most devastating tool would be a TNT blast in the ship. Since the ship would be somewhat thin vertically, being at height-cap, a TNT blast would completely incapacitate a section of it. If a sapper were able to coordinate his bombs properly, he could easily separate the ship into two sections.
It's much safer than ground based fortifications, albeit harder to create.
I think the most effective one is actually to start an artificial forest fire...
Animals will still spawn in forests that are on fire... I accidentally lit a huge one on fire during some experimenting with lava... to my surprise... MANY animals would simple walk into the fire and drop their goodies...
@Kromeh
About the floating base... I like the idea, I've considered it before... however like you said it's very difficult to create something like that. Of course... once people are willing to spend enough time on a project to have it done right... floating bases WILL probably end up being the most powerful you can find.
In fact, they might be so game-breakingly good that certain servers [Like RP servers with wars] might ban floating bases
Wow this is great! I would like to suggest adding my minefield idea, different than what most other people use.
The fuse on tnt is five seconds, and it takes five seconds for one person to walk 16 blocks on a flat surface.
so, why not make it so the tnt is 16 blocks away from the pressure plate, making it so the tnt explodes directly under them.
Diagram:
Pressure plate, 16 redstone, tnt
when someone walks on the pressure plate, they continue walking, until tnt explodes directly beneeth them, killing them. it looks like an artillery barrage for other enemies, making it so they suspect a minefield less, compared to a falling trap.

Only problem is, that you would need to predict where they would go. They could be going the opposite direction.
And not only will you be able to see everyone from up there, but everyone would be able to see you.
And I believe Notch has said he liked the idea of some sort of Aerial Vehicle.

I believe pressure plates make a rather loud sound when they're stepped on though, the person walking by would have to be off in lala land or something to not notice.
EDIT:
Loud and pretty distinct, I just made a wooden pressure plate and tested it out.

It's very easy to see a pressure plate. It's even easier to know you've stepped on one... that's why I haven't included in the OP a mine that involves an exposed pressure plate, it's never a good idea. It could lead to the enemy unearthing and using your traps against you.
Notch HAS said that, and once flying vehicles come into play, the game of warfare will become a LOT more interesting.
Hmm, I was just messing around, admiring my new skin.
I wonder how hard it would be to be able to see me from far away like this:
Jump on top of a tree, then tunnel down through the trunk, and then place a piece of trunk above you at the top of the tree , where it was originally to make things a little darker and harder-to-see-you. And punch out a leaf block in front of you for a clear view. Might be a good way to spy on the enemy from afar.

Well, any Server serious about the kind of... Tactical warfare that this thread is more directed towards would probably have some sort of Plugin to get rid of the nameplates, they'd kind of ruin all sorts of stealth.
Notch may add an option for this himself though, I believe he's said something about wanting to eventually add multiplayer modes, like Capture the Flag, or things like that. And that with Nameplates? Wouldn't really work out.
Here's the hallway. Wait a little bit and I light things up.
I'm working on making a training simulator for people as well.

I'm guessing you didn't know how to do that? (Confused me when it didn't work properly the first time as well.) Just place the code at the end of the Youtube Video's URL into the [youtube] Tags, like:
[yootube]o23Kgyt7v8Q[/yootube] (Only with Youtube spelled properly of course.)
I like that a lot Doctor. Clever use of splitting currents.
I'll include the video in the OP if you like.
Also Joe try not to double post, Just put it all into one. You don't have to quote every post XD
I personally enjoy fishing... and when the army isn't always in the middle of a battle people could fish and just keep cooked fish in a kitchen somewhere. I'm not saying just go fish in the middle of a battle XD
