I looked on the wiki and Googled a few times and didn't find an answer. As of 12w21b you can obtain this armor from villagers in survival and I was wondering how good it actually is. If this wasn't the right forum I apologize

"Chain armor has the same durability as iron armor, but provides only slightly more protection than gold armor."
"Chain armor has the same durability as iron armor, but provides only slightly more protection than gold armor."
From wiki; first paragraph.
I wanted a more specific answer though. I found it. I did miss that bit originally. I was simply looking for an image of it's rating like the other amors get.

That's a good question I have seen armor like fire on there, anyone know what that's about? o.o unless you can wear fire....?
Disregard the uninformed, it has the same durability as gold.
Are you sure? So is the wiki wrong?

It may have changed in the recent snapshot, with chainmail actually being obtainable, but for versions 1.2.5 and prior I am almost absolutely sure it has the same durability as gold.
OFF TOPIC omg yes finally a fan who knows my pic! No one here seems to know about it sadly. It's a great story, but the craziness at the end is like wtffff lol xD thanks I like yours as well :3
I believe that in 1.2.5, these are least to greatest,
Leather
Gold
Chainmail
Iron
Diamond
Those are the overall statistics. I wouldn't recommend it though, because of the fact that emeralds are 25% more rare than diamond.
The second part of your post is completely irrelevant and also non-factual information. Emeralds are more common than diamonds, but are spread across a much larger height range. This is assuming you don't take the fact that they only generate in one biome into effect.
well from the wiki, i have a little something: Material Full Set Helmet Chestplate Leggings Boots Leather 29.2% 20% 37.5% 28.6% 25% Golden 45.8% 40% 62.5% 42.9% 25% Chain 50% 40% 62.5% 57.1% 25% Iron 62.5% 40% 75% 71.4% 50% Diamond 83.3% 60% 100% 85.7% 75%
so this shows the defense points which would be the same as this easy one to understand: Material Full set Helmet Chestplate Leggings Boots Leather Golden Chain Iron Diamond
This shows how many defense points for everything.
If you would like durability:
Material Helmet Chestplate Leggings Boots Leather 56 81 76 66 Golden 78 113 106 92 Chain/Iron 166 241 226 196 Diamond 364 529 496 430
So the Chain/Iron shows that they have the same durability but iron is better for protection.
Leather - gold/chain - iron - diamond
"Chain armor has the same durability as iron armor, but provides only slightly more protection than gold armor."

Click it or it will die...A cold painful death.
[SSSS]
A full set gives on-half mor armor rating than a full set of gold, but it has the durability of iron.

Wait.. why would you take chain armor than iron?
