Hi,
I am currently playing in SMP v1.2.3. Since this update, we no longer have a seed for the world... Is there a way to know on which chunks they spawn?
And as the slimes use the seed to know where to spawn, does this affect their spawn rate?
Thanks!
They simply made it so that the clients cannot see the seed anymore. Slime spawning itself is unchanged, because the spawning is done on the server side.
Unfortunately though, there seems to be no reasonable way at all to determine the seed on the client side, so you need to get the seed or the level.dat from the server admin. If that's not possible, you're left with figuring it out yourself.
OKAY GUYS. I HAVE CLEARED OUT A 3 BY 9 BY LIKE A BILLION MINE AND HAVE WAITED PATIENTLY FOR SSLIMES. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING. IT IS WELL LIT TOO. I TRIED A MOD AND IT SCREWED UP MY COMPUTER AND DIDNT WORK, I TRIED THE JAVA APPLET BUT I CANT EVEN GET TO THE DEBUG SCREEN WITHOUT IT TURNING RED, AND I STILL CANT FIND A SINGLE SLIME. I HAVE THE DIFFICULTY TURNED ALL THE WAY UP TOO. I will take any suggestions or help. I need slimeballs. Thank you.
So I built my spawning floor in a good chunk on layer 40, but when I went to dig out the canals I realized my mob trap was right beside my slime farm (and I mean right beside it) almost all of the caves are lit up. My question is that because all of the hostile mobs are going to spawn within a few chunks (mob trap) will slimes still spawn in my farm?
I have the same problem, I built my trap and was happy to find two slime chunks directly under it when I needed the slimeballs, so I dug down there. in the process of making the slime farm, I came accross a large cave system and got lost in there for days ( RL days BTW.) - but when i was comming out I got the slimeballs I needed and finished the tower... - now my problem is the slime spawns mess with the tower, and vise versa.
My solution has been to hollow out both chunks from bedrock, up to level 41 so there is only one floor they can spawn on. I've got one chunk finished and the other just started. - the plan then is to rig up a redstone floor flooding system that can disable the slime farms for the mob trap to work right - and the trap can already be disabled with just a switch for when I want to go kill slimes - though I don't see why I ever would, since I'm working on my 4th stack or so of slime balls ATM.

did you light up all of the surface area within a 144 block radius as well? if not, start there.
My slime chunk wasnt spawning anything so I went into acreative super-flat world with the same seed and made a big grid on the ground. But slimes were spawing in all the wrong ones. is this just because of superflat or creative? or is the app broken now?
okay, so i have to dig like a thousand miles away from my mineshaft to go to a cluster of slime spawning chunks according to my level data, but, is it really NEEDED to spawn slimes or is it just to increase the rate? its on a server so i leave it up at night, so i can spawn plenty of monsters if i let it run, but if I have to go that far just to spawn slimes i think making sticky pistons can wait a moment lol
I have a terrible feeling that slime chuncks changed with 1.2.4. I started a farm just before the update, and now no more slimes spawn. Can anyone confirm?

you don't have to dig out a big grouping of chunks to get slimes - there is a slime chunk about every ten, and since their spawns are not affectted by light level's, they will eventually start spawning in those chunks through the natural process of cave diving and lighting - the more you light up a cave system, the more you start to see them in that cave system.

I think something might have changed, but I'm not sure. I updated yesterday, and from what I can tell, no slimes have spawned. Even then, I'm not sure it actually came from my slime spawning area since I have a few tunnels connected to it. Also, I just noticed that the Slime Finder app and the slime finder in What's My Light Level seem to disagree about slime chunks now, while before, they agreed (and were correct). They both seem to be wrong now, since the one chunk that I have my slime farm in, where they both agree that slimes should spawn, is not spawning slimes. :/
EDIT: Okay, after some testing, I have determined that WMLL seems to be correct, while the app is not. I'm not sure what's different. My slime farm is spawning slimes, but it's pretty uncommon. I think I need to clear out some areas around it to keep other things from spawning.
No matter what I do I cant find slimes Im using the slim finder for the seed of the server and cover huge area of blocks and making sure there are at least 3 chunks together and ive spent hours and hours and still cant get any slimes to spawn, even went into single player using slime mod for the seed and it said slimes spawned there. I need some help please I really would like to make sticky pistons.

I was also having trouble so I experimented a little bit with my farm. During the time it took to finish my farm, I spawned about 3 slimes total. So what I did was go through all the caves above my slime farm. First I lit them all up and then all the areas below height level 40 I lined the floors with half slabs so that not only could any hostile mobs spawn, but neither would slimes spawn in areas above my farm. So therefore nothing can spawn in the chunks I built my farm for the whole height level except slimes in my farm.
During this process my farm started randomly spitting out slimes. I literally had to stop my construction just to keep killing the slimes that kept popping out. So apparently the slime chunk finder app works, otherwise I wouldn't be getting any slimes at all. At one point I walked away to do other things and the slimes despawned. Now I've been here a while and nothing is spawning again. Something must have changed to the spawning system. I have no idea what it could be, so the only solution I can think of trying at the moment is adding additional floors above mine to increase the slime spawning chance. I don't know what exactly is going on, so maybe someone else does.
I get all the room I can to compensate for all the caves you don't find in a 144 block radius, even with extensive exploration. A floor at level 39 and then every 4th below: 35, 31, 27, 23, 19, 15, 11, 7. Below that bedrock gets in the way.

Thank you. I will try that.

Like if I have a chicken farm near my slime farm?
