Question: If a large slime is 2.4, then if you make a 2 high spawning area with a glass ceiling it should still die and break into smaller slimes right?
Also, is there any discernable pattern of the chunks in relation to chunk 0,0 by any chance or is it really random by seed?
random by seed and chunk. no patterns or anything to find.
i don't think they die, they probably just get stuck like i said what happens with 1 high glass ceiling to medium slimes.
that's because non-opaque blocks don't deal damage to you or entities in general. you can see this if you ride a minecart through a glass block or slab compared to a stone block.
Check out the tool thread. I made an online version to display a whole map as well as an ingame mode which shows your seed and whether slimes can spawn in your current chunk. works on smp.
I used the tool to find a slime chunk, and carved out a spawning room near the bottom of the map. It must be in the right spot since I have seen 2 slimes, but I can wait around all night and not see any spawn. I made sure there were no other mobs withing view of f3, and still nothing.

I posted this in another thread but i think it better belongs here.
Am I doing something wrong? I used the mod to locate a slime spawning chunk and dug out the entire 16x6 chunk. The spawning floor is at level 9 and the whole room is 5 blocks high. Do I need to enlarge the room to surrounding chunks? I got extremely lucky that I only ran into a little bit of lava but I know if I expand on two sides I'll be dealing with a lava lake. I have a feeling I may be too close to my hostile mob spawning area. I know they overlap but there's a 36 level difference between them. I may try to locate an area I found using the online app that in a 4x5 chunk area has about 7 slime spawning chunks. Time to start making some TNT...
I think another reason is my game is pooched ATM. No mobs are spawning or when they do it's only one or two and that's it. I looked at the map again and found a 3x6 rectangle that has 6 slime chunks that I'm going to mine out. If I get ambitious three of the corners of the 3x6 rectangle are slime spawning chunks too. I almost hate to use TNT after finding a stack of iron, 2 of redstone, 20 diamonds, and some gold just digging out the permimiter. The thought of mining out 23,040 blocks by hand may make me change my mind. Hmm
Wow. I was right about the pooched spawning. Once monsters started spawning I checked my 1x1 chunk had spawned one giant slime which I somehow managed to kill without splitting it. I checked back later and there were 3 giants and 2 mediums waiting for me. I decided to use my in progress spawning area as a mine since I've found a ton of resources there was already a giant slime waiting for me. Something tells me I'll have plenty of slimeballs now.
edit: While typing this another giant one spawned 4 blocks in front of me. The 24 block rule doesn't apply to slime spawning?
I swear, slime spawning is messed up on SMP as of 1.7. I built a huge cavern in three chunks of slime spawning area. After staying the distance away for the entire night, nothing spawned. As soon as I restarted my client and the server, there were tons of slimes. Is anybody else having this problem?
ok, so I know that with a windows computer one can hit a few buttons and it will pop up the magical graph and some stuff that shows your coordinates. But I am playing on a mac... So, can anybody explain how I can find out my coordinates? I know anything at all about coordinates in this game... I don't really know anything about the specific size of chunks, or how to differentiate chunks from one another...

It should if you use the same seed as the SMP server.
thats because glass is hollow

dude you have to be 24 blocks away
Oh! thanks... I still have no idea what anything in the magic graph and the such actually means though...

This program is amazingly effective. Move away from the area then wait.
