3. Bow
4. Food
5. Water Bucket
6. Lava Bucket
7. Empty most of the time
8. Cobble
9. Torches
It's usually something close to this.
Pick always has to be first and torches last.
Otherwise I end up hitting 1 and start mining with a fish without realizing it haha.
That is a pretty average toolbar when exploring and such.
This is practally my setup. I don't understand why people put torches near the middle of the bar when the end is easily scrollable from whatever you have currently selected...
The only downside for me is that the '0' key is a pain to reach on my mouse.
1 torches
2 shovel
3 pick
4 sword
5 bow
6 bucket of water for oh **** moments caused by lava lol
7 cobble for blocking off passages behind me to prevent flanking or plug holes above my head
8 gravel for getting down from high places or blocking mob movement from above
9 food
My setup:
1) Sword
2) Bow (if available)
3) Pickaxe
4) Shovel
5) Axe/Hoe (if working) Otherwise I use some type of block like Dirt or Cobble in case I need to do a quick build.
6) Empty
7) Bucket (usually full of water, in case of lava!)
8) Food
9) Torches
For some reason I like having an empty space in 6, I'm not even sure why to be honest... If anyone has any ideas of what I should put there feel free to let me know :smile.gif: Also, if you have any changes to my setup that you think will help me out, feel free to let me know :biggrin.gif:
1. Pick
2. Sword
3. Shovel (NOTE: 3 to 5 may vary based on what I need to do. I don't know why I switch it, I just do.)
4. Axe
5. Bow
6. Misc. (Usually cobble, dirt, doors, etc.)
7. Torches
8. Misc.
9. Food (Usually a nice stack of beef or porkchops.)
10. Random tool (Shears, extra pick, shovel, sword, etc.)
It really works well for both mining and normal activities. It just fits in with what I need at any time. My inventory, though, could use some organizing.

Usually I just carry a stack of raw wood with me and craft a crafting table/furnace/other item on the go if I need to.
Also, I never really pick up my crafting tables, so my world just ends up with crafting tables dotting the landscape.
