Wow, a really helpful and in depth guide. Thankyou!
Are you thinking of doing any other themes/biomes, like modern futuristic, or sky top mountains or something like that?
But still, lovely guide and has definitely helped my ideas for my little build
Of course, I'm planning to do every single biome in minecraft, with the exception of probably the end (yes, I consider the sky as a biome so wait for that one!) Not so sure about sky top mountains though, I'll think about it.
That is actually a really nice spot for a house. It can be either like the one I did in my medieval place, or a modern house with a lot of columns and glass. I don't have much time at the moment so I'm not able to create a short mock-up, sorry. Maybe look for some inspiration in youtube, or browse around planet minecraft - take a look at the hot projects at the moment.
Awesome to hear, can't wait for the updates as and when they arrive.
(Oh i meant skytop mountains as in like Buildings in the sky, or floating Islands) Anyway, can't wait!
Great guide, especially the part about depth and using the terrain, that helped me a lot.
Still, i'm really new to building above ground, and i'm still pretty sucky at it. I want to build a medieval home on top of a mountain, sort of ''perched'' (that's how google translate says it, ask me if you don't get what i mean) on the very top, but i'm having troubles. It feels like it will be an eyesore, and i'm still thinking about how to proceed. Maybe make it rounder?
Something i know i want to be there are the support struts, that's for sure. Some ideas for them would be nice too. Also, that staicase. It's a friggin' punch in the eyes.
First of all I'd suggest making the supports larger, like much larger. Something like this.
Another thing I suppose is to add more shape to your structure or inset the walls in. If not, add more curves using stairs so that the bottom of the structure flows better into the mountain.
I can tell that some of the palettes were taken from the Mindcrack
(BDoubleO's build and Etho's Build. )
It looks like a good thread since I am average at building!
Amazing thread! Really inspired me to try to get back into building. I was wondering if you could offer any suggestions to the house I designed? I am not completely satisfied.

Damn, that actually looks really good. I'm digging how the roof looks. Have never tried that block palette either, very nice. As for suggestions, only thing I find strange would be the pillars at the front of the roofs sticking out like that. Feels kinda weird for me.
The interior is pretty nice but I'd suggest changing the roof block to something different than everything else. Also, you should place a border to break up the bottom floor there (maybe something like stone bricks?)
Hey guys, been quite a while but I promise that I'll be putting out an update tomorrow. School started recently and I got just that much more busy. But ah well, I'll try my best to post the desert one tomorrow.
Definitely looking forward to the desert. That's my favorite biome for specific build themes (since medieval gets to be a little generic sometimes, even though it's great when done well).
I completed the desert guide, but unfortunately the internet over here is too slow at the moment to upload all the pictures. But as a sort of tease, here's what the finished thing looks like.
Updated the OP for the desert guide. Man, I'll have to organize the OP with spoilers pretty soon from now on. It's getting rather disgustingly long - but I'm glad you guys like it
I probably should have said this when I first saw the topic, but...
As far as I'm concerned, this is great, and I hope you finish the "building with biomes" section. I'll certainly keep this page handy the next time I try building something significant.
And for what it's worth, I agree that spoilers would probably be a good addition.

Anyway, great thread! I'm sure that I will use it in the future.
Thanks! Not too sure on that one, the block palettes that I posted simply serve as examples. The block palettes that you use is up to you to create
Ah I see. In that case, I will probably do it.
I didn't plan for the thread to go up this long, will change the format a little bit next update

Not sure what you mean, if you want me to help you with something specific, just send me a pm.
