Ok, ok.
Slimes are way more dangerous than I ever expected :ohmy.gif:
I was down in my mine, went to the westernmost tunnel.
Before I reached the end of the tunnel, I went to the right through a small tunnel I forgot.
I went back to the main tunnel again, turned my head to the right.. and saw this:
Holy ****.
They just spontaneously appeared out of nowhere in large groups.
Hello, I have made two floors so far, and just wanted to check if its working. Ive waited twice about 15 mins each, and no luck. Do they usually take more time to spawn or is it because I have 1.7.2 and the Chunk Detector is 1.6.6?
That I have seen, the chunks have not changed in 1.6. I used this program again, and my chunk results are the same.
This sounds like a poor excuse, but your mob spawning may be bugged somewhat. I recently had to reinstall Minecraft because my copy would stop spawning mobs entirely for hours at a time. I have no clue. Keep trying!
At first thanks for the nice blueprint. Well done!
I just finished a 4 floor slime spawner over 5 chunks.
The slime spawning rate is crazy and everything is fine except for one big annoying thing:
All the time slimes get stuck IN the floors so that you can't kill them on the floor they are actually supposed to be and they do lots of damage to you on the floor underneath. The only way i figured out to kill them is to destroy some block in front of the slimes from underneath.
It would be great if anyone knew how to solve this problem
Interesting! I have never once encountered that problem. They shouldn't be getting stuck in the floor; they should be dying and splitting. What kinds of blocks are you using?

I've noticed this; like other mobs, they do spawn in groups. Additionally, they split when they die. Large slimes will spawn in small hallways and nearly instantly die and split, causing a LOT more slimes when you find them.
Will the slimes despawn? for example, will I get more if I wait for an hour? What would you say is the optimal waiting time?
Slimes DO despawn now, but not likely if they are within range of you. I don't know what an optimal waiting time is, but I'd say no less than 10 minutes unless a fluke causes a bunch of spawns.
If you intend to leave the game AFK while waiting, then it shouldn't be an issue. Some might despawn, but many more will probably spawn in the time that passes.
The only thing that could hinder you is checking TOO often; they won't spawn when you are close. However, the distance I had of 3 chunks was long enough that slimes would occasionally spawn on the opposite end while I was killing slimes on my end.
up until today I had never seen a slime in game and didn't believe ppl that said they had been re implimented but downloaded the slime chunk mod found an area of three slime chunks inside my branch mine and turned it into a slime farm. just finished the 2nd floor and already got a full stack of slimeballs just during construction.
Kastrel, a suggestion if someone wanted to go over the top:
Add pressure plates every other space on the floor of the farm, and have those pressure plates connected to an inverter, and have that inverter connected to a torch in the waiting area (or in my case the base above the slime farm). This way, if the torch is flickering, you know that there are slimes in your farm. You could even connect this to note block to alert you even further.

Thats a good idea, though . . . damn thats a lot of pressure plates. It would take over 1000 to cover my farm . . . but then I realized I have no room for redstone circuitry. So nevermind.
You could just add one or a couple per floor and if it's signaling rarely then it's just a few slimes, if the signal is going wild then you have a lot ... or you could just wait 30-40 minutes like you've done.
Or you can just do it on the first floor, and/or you don't have to have the redstone be under the floor, have the redstone be on top of the floor connected to pressure plates.
Since slimes tend to gather in the corners for some reason, you could also just put the plates in the corners only.

Goes off to attempt third slime farm build...

By the way, how can I take a screenshot Ingame like you did in one of your screenshots of the farm?
Thanks!

Well you could go further, but there would be no point. Slimes will only spawn in that 16x16xZ space, where Z is the number of floors you have.
Its on Multiplayer they spawn fine its just killing them is very tricky...
You might try installing a drowning trap. They are very susceptible to it.
