Hi everyone, what is your way of getting rid of unwanted items in survival mode? I love to use rapid-firing droppers to throw items onto lava. Here's a simple incinerator I've used before:
It does take 20 hoppers, but I've so much iron in my survival world that 20 hoppers is no problem. I could just toss all my items into cacti, but that's so boring: watching items hail onto lava is so much funner!
UPDATE: I've changed the design of my incinerator a little. The name "Incinerator 2.0" was fitting I guess.
I've changed the design so that the items literally rain down onto a pool of lava. The chimney on the right side's just for looks. Not bad for a junk-ridder amirite?
Like the previous design, there are two droppers being used. Their rate of firing has increased two-fold! A single stack of items goes by so fast...so fun to watch. Not only that, but now only 3 hoppers are used here instead of 20. Rapid redstone pulses are used to power the droppers:
The back side of this thing isn't very pretty, but I'll try to fix that if I can. Call this machine pointless, but I love it.
Have a number of 1 x 1 block Incinerators dotted about my base, all same design - lava block about 2 blocks down, trap door cover with pressure plate in front and half slab 2 blocks up so you can't fall in. Just stand on plate, and dump my stuff from my inventory manually,
I have a wood house and put lava where I thought it would not burn down well... I was wrong and my house probably would have been destroyed if it was not for the timely rain shower. I use cactus now.
All unwanted wood type items I just stuff in to the furnace and use them as fuel ahead of the normal coal supply. That way they get burned quickly and ores get smelted at the same time. Fencing, half slabs, etc are great for this. Stuff that doesn't burn for smelting sits in a chest or gets tossed in lava.
I just toss unwanted items into my well and let them despawn. Fire, lava, and cacti can be dangerous -- I'd feel pretty silly if I accidentally threw in something important, like a nice enchanted pick for example, and couldn't just wade in and fish it back out.
What. Like you've never misclicked anything before in your life...
Junk? I don't throw away anything.. except when im mining and need room. I'm an organized hoarder, you never know when you might need a ton of dirt/gravel etc.
I hate throwing anything away. Even though I have at least four double chests full of cobblestone at any given time, it makes me sick when my inventory fills up while mining and I'm not picking up the cobblestone anymore. I live by the philosophy that you never know when you might need something. If I were to need to throw something away, I'd likely just throw it on the ground somewhere that I don't walk very often and let it despawn.

This basically sums me up. When my inventory gets full, I just drop worthless things or deposite them into a chest. I never really destroy anything. I might do an incinerator on my current survival world, but I'm not sure.
I use a sticky piston and lava. pour a bucket of lava into a hole, use a sticky piston to cover it up when not in use. Keep a chest beside you so that you can put your wanted items in it and just have junk in your inv. Then throw everything away and wacth it burn! >

I don't like throwing anything away I can't get back, even if it's just dirt or netherrack. Cobblestone, on the other hand, is a renewable resource; I do keep a hefty back-stock on hand, but it's one of the first things I'll dump if my inventory gets too full, since even if I do run out, I can always hit up my generator and make as much more as I need.
No need really, it's just hoppers under a trapped chest feeding into a rapid-firing dispenser. I'll post a picture of the backside soon.
At the moment I'm looking into more aesthetically pleasing designs of my incinerator, along with making it less resource consuming. But anyways, it's interesting seeing how other people deal with junk; I gotta try that Cthulu thing sometime lol.
I live in a ravine. I just chuck it down to the bottom of it where I'll never see it again.

I've never made a cobblestone generator in my entire time playing minecraft (since shortly before the nether was added in alpha.) I really should since there isn't much to them. That being said, if I must toss something, cobblestone is usually my first choice also, though usually for the reason that I have more of it than anything else, not because I considered it renewable.
EDIT: I've been lying to everyone here. I thought of something I can stand to throw away. It seems like skeletons drop bows that are nearly broken quite often. While I know I could do the old school repair method on them and get some full health bows, I typically just chuck them on the ground somewhere never to be seen again. I do keep any enchanted bows that drop though.

Like you, I like to hold onto anything because I tend to need it later. But there's times in Minecraft where my chests get cluttered up by items I have no use for and have too much of. Rotten meat, sugar cane, nether wart, etc. Then that's where my incinerators come in; they're so fun to use that I'm struggling to find things to burn in my survival world right now, lol.
I did update my original post with more pictures of a new design, if anyone's interested.
