You could add an Opulence Room. In my base it is a 10x30x10 room, the walls are covered in paintings, and at one end is a redstone controlled waterfall. Basically it is a room that you show off all your cool stuff.

Open a swimming hole or ocean area all the way to the bedrock. Then install Caisson walls that go from the surface to the bedrock and remove the water. bonus points for glass caisson walls.

Finally...I've gotten past the beginning of MineCraft. I have finally established a base in a location , I am happy with , but it's going to need tons of work. :smile.gif:

One thing that I always love to have in my minecraft base is an auditorium. Sure, you barely ever use it, even on SMP, but it gets rid of all that empty space in the back of your cobblestone fortress. IT can be simply a few rows of seats and a podium, or a giant dome like this:
Another thing that I have in my minecraft base is a pirate ship. Just google minecraft pirate ship and you will get 100 results of pirate ships that people have built. It can function as a cool little "house", and it makes your "port" seem less empty.
Finally, a cool thing to have is an aqueduct.

<Insert Einstein quote here> <Insert mod/texturepack/skinshop/server/clan banner here> <Insert favorite posts here>.....As you can see, I procrastinate a little too much
Edited the post to fix the formatting errors caused by the new layout
Also I added a 'large builds' section, which hopefully will now allow the thread to take all sorts of build ideas. So far the only large builds mentioned are Fort Zero and Shadowmonarch castle, which actually made a lasting impression on me and twice inspired me to build my own fail-forts.
You can have an emergency building where you could swiftly get backup(i mean food, armor etc) to fight back or hide safe from monsters waiting for dawn. For an example you could build a little shack that leads down to a obsidian saferoom. Using iron doors and buttons almost no mobs get in.
I definitely want to do the aqueduct myself once I get my town a little bigger. I just reset my SMP world and my friends and I have been getting our hands around the towny mod. Quite nice really as its focusing everyone to remain somewhat together and work as a team unlike before where everyone vanished 2k+ blocks away from the server spawn.
As to the aqueduct, I have a mountain probably about 1500ish blocks from the center of the town That I will make a lake on the top of to be the source. For looks I think I'd like the water to fall for a short distance into the next leg. Maybe 5-8 blocks? From a looks standpoint though I need to figure out how high to make the service level relative to the ground. Like the arches are the main aesthetic appeal and should be relatively high but you have to be workable in height at the same time. 20-25 blocks maybe over the ground?
Hmmm. I was reviewing my current house and this, and noticed a couple things. A Cobblestone Generator is essential if you want to build gigantic things, or lots of small things, and still have a scenic area around your house. If you live next to an Ocean, river, or lake, a dock is a must. You can build them out of slabs, Soul Sand, doors, pistons, or just park your boat on the shore. A dock needs to have a chest full of wood, crafting table (to build boats), food, place to fish from, and large tower that can be seen from far out at sea to mark your bases location. A third thing to add is a room or series of rooms to keep cats, trained wolves, and whatever else might be added later. You could call it a stable, kennel, or animal house.

you know, first thing that came to mind when looking at the furnace room was, 'hmmm, now where did i put that iron to smelt'
it would take forever to find.

I actually started a system with a big switchboard of levers that indicated where I had materials smelting. It overcomplicated things a bit, but it was worth it.

Nice. Added.
It's there under mob grinder.
I also added these to my world:
- A *Automated sugar cane farm (Not needed but fun)
- A museum
- A EXP grinder
- A iron farm
- A red barn
it would take forever to find.
