My mob farm have been producing a lot of loot, but my hopper can't collect such a huge amount of loot at a time, causing a lot of loses. Does anyone know how to increase the speed of item collecting for a hopper?
I'm no expert but I'd think you'd have to spread the items out over more hoppers, either using water streams or by redesigning the mob farm so the mobs are killed over a larger area.

Apparently hoppers in minecarts can pull in up to 20 items per second, much faster than ordinary hoppers, but it would have to be emptied by a hopper under it. That could be useful if the items are coming in spurts, probably not that useful unless you are on a server with a short item despawn time.
Or several minecart hoppers could be used as an alternative (and more complicated) way of spreading out the load, let a hopper minecart fill up then move it to an unloading station and move another one in place.
I had the same issue with my Guardian Farm, the collection area was 4x4 hoppers but that channeled down to a single hopper path to the chests and that made a back-up and eventually all the hoppers in the collection point were full and stuff wouldnt go in. I had to create a second hopper path to the chests and that work fine. If your collection point is a single hopper, you need to find a way to expand the area to two hoppers say and channel them seperately to the collection chests.
Have multiple connection points, have 2 by 2, use multiple channels of hoppers (and harass Mojang so they add pipes), have buffer chests, have chests linked by 2 hoppers instead of 1. have them accessible, empty it regularly.
Basically, what you have to do, is to start thinking big. On large scale, look into every aspect. Is the throughput good enough? Capacity sufficient?

Just testing.
