Some of the players on my server have told me that Minecraft is "too hard" and we should make it easier so that people will want to stay on our server. For example, a couple days or so ago some guy was wandering around and got blown up by a creeper. He was upset and basically said "OMG creepers blow up on this server?!? WAAAA I LOST ALL MY STUFF I QUIT" (he had apparently believed that since towns were safe from creepers, the entire world would be safe).
Now, I think this is ludicrous. I'm of the opinion that if you're the kind of person who cries and leaves a server just because he got blown up, you don't deserve to play on a minecraft server. I only want dedicated, DECENT players on my server, not a bunch of whiny kids who can't play the game.
Now, don't bother me with "not all kids are immature!!11!one" crap. The "I'm mature for my age" line has become common enough that I won't believe it readily, so don't bother bringing it up. If you're mature for your age, I'll be able to see it in your actions (the server doesn't actually have an age limit anymore, I've found that the kids will often screen themselves out for me, like the above example).
I think Minecraft is WAY too easy. Honestly, once you get diamond armour (about four hours gameplay, tops), you're pretty much nigh-invulnerable to the environment. So, I was thinking of installing this plugin: http://forums.bukkit...2-5-r1-0.52728/
I would turn off the block-destroying effects and the constant nighttime, and maybe the long-range snipers, but overall, I think the plugin offers some pretty useful features. However, one of my players (the same one complaining that the game is too hard for new players) thinks that this will drive people away. I think that's absurd, but to be certain about it, I wanted to make a poll.

Same, it just takes some time to get used to. And if he was the upset and a baby about things, you probably didn't want him in your server anyways.
That's my point! I'm glad there's people who agree with me.
Now if only I could get the poll to show up so I can prove it to my players that there are people out there who think like I do...

There is more risk of 'death by stupidity/accident' than anything else. A creeper blows up and maybe destroys some track I was laying. Annoying. A creeper blows up and knocks me off a cliff into a pool of lava. Darwin.
I think vanilla Minecraft is a bit too easy, yes. The only thing that ever gets remotely difficult is managing hunger, on hard difficulty, when you start off in an area with no wheat grass or meat mobs. So uh... very specific restrictions there. That said, I don't think Minecraft is supposed to be hard in that sense. I think what's supposed to be hard is the building aspects in survival mode, which CAN get kinda hard at times (try building a castle that's suspended between two mountains and you'll know what I mean.)

I'll be using that youtube account to upload Minecraft Let's Plays when I get a better computer
It's fine. There is a small percentage of people who will always say things are easy in any game. Those people need to be identified and ignored. Not in a rude way, developers just have to understand that it will be impossible to create enough content and challenge to keep up with those kinds of people.
When I used to play WoW, there was a small percentage (less than .1%) that would beat all the high end raids in a week after release and then get on the forums and say how easy everything was and that WoW needed more content. Blizzard was smart, they said thanks for the feedback and then did nothing about it. No matter how difficult you make something, there is some lonely geek out there who will play 18+ hours a day until they beat it just so they can jump on the forums and say how easy it was. Developers need to focus on making a game fun and hard enough to provide challenge to the majority.
As it is now, Minecraft is a fairly unforgiving game. When you die and you can lose all your stuff. When you start a new world, it's anyone's guess where you will start. These are some the factors that give this game a challenge to the majority because they aren't common elements in other games. Minecraft is fine as it is. Mojang can make minor tweaks to the challenge if they want, but no major overhaul is needed to the difficulty of the game.
I do think the game is quite simple. My friend who who played, even though he is more interested in buildign than mining and exploring, has only died twice and he just tried the game for the first time.
I think to fix this is new mob behaviors. Spiders going a bit faster, Zombies spawning in groups of 2-8, and creepers being restricted to underground, things like that.
Well, it isn't very hard, not even on hardcore. I play on a server that is on hardcore, I thought the server was on easy.... until I heard zombies knocking down my doors.
However, I don't want to damage the wilderness in the world I already have, so I'd have to make a new world for it, and then I'd need some sort of motivation to get people to actually travel to that world...

Exactly, but at least with iron you're capable of getting hurt if you try hard enough :P.

I think it's too easy and I think that the poll results are skewed. There are way too many answers, I would've pretty much set it up as: Too easy, too hard, or just right.

I said this. Two days later, my computer's motherboard melted down and I had to get a new one with Windows 8.
Irony in the first degree.
