So i made a little villager breeding farm from a youtube tutorial. I followed everything step by step, but they will not breed. I have tried to give them both tons of food and also i have unlocked more trading options.
Are you seeing 'willingness' hearts? (If so, it will just be a matter of time until both hit simultaneously… and while in proximity to each other. That may take some time, particularly with only two in the farm.) [You may want to temporarily 'fence' them into a much smaller area until the population rises; slime blocks at head height work well for this.]
Not relevant if you're giving them food, but you have a white coat [Librarian or Cartographer] and a purple coat [Cleric], neither of which will harvest & plant crops. [If you want them to raise their own food, you need at least one brown coat Farmer/Fisher/Fletcher/Shepard.]
What version this was built in may be an issue, some of the 1.13 releases had a change in the vertical villager door recognition range and the build you have looks like it has the doors placed on the fifth block below the farmland. [Five down is the normal maximum range to 'see' the doors both before and after the releases with the changed range, so moving the doors down one or two blocks may help if you're not playing one of those versions. 1.12.2 and 1.13.2 the build should be fine that way, not sure exactly which intermediates had the fooled with system…]
EDIT: Yikes, missed the only four doors , not sure now how that model is supposed to work…
I may be missing something but are there really enough doors there?
It seems to me that those villagers are close enough to be counted in the population cap in which case you'd need at least 9 doors in order to raise the cap to 3. The only way I can see that 4 doors could be enough would be if the villagers were simultaneously close enough to detect the doors and far enough away that they aren't counted in the population cap, is that possible? Do you have a link to the tutorial?
If you're going for a standard infinite breeder you should lower the doors by 2 blocks, (since farmland is less than a full block high), add 2 doors to make 6 and have a villager by the doors to make the doors detected.
How far away are those houses? And are there any wooden doors there, that only matters if there are also villagers there.

Ok, apparently it IS possible to have villagers detect doors while being outside the census area.

There are some definite differences I'm seeing between your breeder and mine which I know works. First thing I have to ask- Do you have a farmer in that breeder? It looks like you have a priest and a librarian in your farm but you need one of the brown-coat farmer villagers in there to harvest the carrots and give them to the other villager so they can both become willing and breed. When I place my doors I usually have them a level lower and in a different configuration but that's secondary to my next question- Is there a villager down there? Villagers spawn until their population reaches 35% of the number of valid doors they have. I use 6 doors 5 layers below my farm with 1 villager (any type) trapped with them which means the 'village' will constantly want 2 villagers while only registering 1. I see 4 doors in your picture, assuming they have sky exposure through that center trap door I guess they may all be considered valid, but that would make your villager population limit 1.4 meaning 2 villagers meets the population limit. Do you have a villager down by those doors somewhere? Every breeder I've ever seen has a villager with the doors that is actually responsible for controlling the population limit despite not doing any breeding.

On the contrary!
Unless I'm seriously miscounting blocks, having a sky view through the trapdoor would make the doors invalid, since they each also have one block of sky view around the edge of the farm (assuming they are placed on the blocks next to the center which at least 3 of them must be.)
So that's a potential problem even if the number of doors is somehow sufficient.
A less important factor is that there doesn't seem to be any water to hydrate the farm meaning that the crops would grow much slower.

Though maybe the center trapdoor is waterlogged?
If so that should solve both problems.
The way I always understood door validity was that a valid door was a door with exposure to sky on one side and a covered area of a different size. When I look at this door configuration, assuming the trapdoor is just to prevent villagers from falling in, I would think we have 4 doors with 1 outside space and 5 inside spaces which would all be valid. Maybe I'm incorrect, it's been a long time since I designed a breeder, I may need to read the rules again.
I'm pretty sure the 4 trapdoors that aren't in the center are waterlogged because they have a single block stuck under them and I can think of no other reason to do that. I'm pretty sure the one in the middle is sky exposure due to the 'tunnel' type block extension I see coming down.

Well, it seems to work. I have now have 5 villagers without changing anything. It just takes a while. I'm getting those hearts, but it takes long time before i get the at the same time.
Unless they've changed things it's the total number of inside vs outside spaces within 5 blocks that needs to be compared on either side and, assuming a light shaft next to the doors, they have 4 inside spaces and 1 outside space on either side, it makes no difference that the outside space is closer on one side than on the other.

Your correct, i have 4 blocks around the square with water.

All of the blocks are fully hydrated. I might add some more doors.

Glad to hear that!
I'm going to have to follow the link and see what the explanation is in terms of village mechanics since it contradicts my understanding in at least two ways, but it's always fun to learn new things.
