I understand this is a really old post but idk where to post. My did all the steps to find my end portal stronghold and it doesn’t have an end portal but it did have a big library. I was wondering if it’s possible that the actual end portal could be outside the stronghold? It’s a small strong hold and close to my main base. I don’t want to give up on it yet but do I have to dig within 50 blocks to find it?

This can happen; for example, although it is probably less likely now since 1.3 allowed strongholds to intersect water (before only the portal room was able to generate underwater; in the example a lava lake prevented part of the stronghold from generating, I don't know if lava still does this).
Also, if you are on Bedrock there is a chance that there is no portal whatsoever and you'll need to find another stronghold, which are unlimited in number (this should never happen on Java, barring an unreproducible world generation glitch or upgrading a world from a version with different stronghold generation; contrary to widespread belief, features like caves do not directly cut through strongholds or anything other than the terrain istelf, rather, it is that strongholds do not replace air when placing walls, but the portal room itself always overwrites any blocks in its way, as do the internal structures, so this is never a reason for a missing portal, though it could be harder to navigate the stronghold).
IT WORKED thanks so much dude!
Just as an update, I just got impatient and opened to lan, switched to creative, and built one. It may seem lazy, but that's just how I am.
Wait... if i'm a Mexican food... Will Drumpf deport me...?

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
Aren’t there multiple strongholds per world or am I mistaken?
hello, I am new.
If java yes. I cannot tell you the exact number (up to 128 according to Google) but someone will chime in.
I usually build a rail that connects the three closest.
There used to be an achievement for riding 1000 blocks (I think), the connected strongholds more than met that requirement.
