From the Wiki: "Abandoned mineshafts generate at much higher Y-levels in these biomes, oftentimes exposed to the sky, and are made of dark oak wood planks and fences rather than oak. Additionally, gold ore generates at Y-level 79 rather than 32, and at much higher rates as well, making badlands caverns an excellent source of gold."
Same in my seed in the badlands (is that what we call Mesa's now?). I have 2 "cave" spider spawners within 30 blocks of each other at the surface. One of them is exposed to daylight!
That 'foxtime' seed also gives you a surface mineshaft at spawn, should be in the Seeds subforum somewhere. Nice find!
And we're supposed to get Foxes (I think - and as-opposed to Wolves /Dogs - compared to Ocelots and coming-Cats separately) in the coming (1.14 Pillage /Village) Update. This is why I check the ChangeLogs for Updates, Before, After, and During the Updat([e][ing])(s).
Things Change (and are Added)! I've taken to calling them "Gold Biomes," to remember what I use them most - Newly-for.
Which's to say, mainly, Breeding Horse-types. Mules in (and out of) the (now-surface) Mines.. MineCarts optional...

'Gold biomes'. Heh, I like that. You should also really suggest foxes/stray dogs to Suggestions, it's actually a pretty good idea.
I have a 20k rail line (so far). I started with power rails 1 every 15 rails. Since I found a badlands, I've shortened that up to 1 in 8. I have a half chest of racks of gold blocks, more than I'll ever need. I wish I could find an "Iron biome".
I found an above ground mineshaft while exploring my survival world. If you would like to check it out yourself, I'll leave the seed and coordinates!!

That happens a lot in

Just testing.
I actually didn't know this! I found it really abnormal because I have never seen anything like this. Thank you though!

Bückoland - My survival world
I once found a Mineshaft connected to a Stronghold AND a dungeon with cool loot. The dungeon spawner spawned in spiders, which was lucky.
